What'S 'Normal' When Changing Retirement Extension To Marriage Extension

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Been reading some posts about getting your non-O extension based on marriage after having the retirement extension.

Besides some usefull info on what documents to bring, I read that it takes about a month befor things are settled.

So of I went to Chiang Mai immigration 30 days befor expire date of my retirement extension.

Had everything with me and all was in order, except that the lady asked me to come back next month.

Amazed of course; no hassle with docs going to Bangkok etc. I never read that on the web or here.

Than I said to her that one can normally extend from 30 days in advance, so then why not in this case?

Answer was as simple as not understandable. It was because this was 'a change'.

A bit confused and grumbling about my half day lost I left the theatre.

I might have missed some related posts, but imho there are no such.

Any other experiences on this subject?

No change that I know of.

Have not seen anything reported here.

Did she mean because you were changing status from retirement to marriage, rather than a change in the rules?

She didn't mention a change in rules. She just said it was a change (in status indeed) and I had to come back just one or two days befor expiration of my extension. Doesn't give me a good feeling, but, the lady at counter 3 works there long time and she takes the heavy cases like biss visa. Only bummer is she and others (immigration) are not so willing to specify their answers. I tell you so and that's it.

Anyways, have to bring two sets of all documents and in this case of course two new letters from the bank etc.

I know staying on retirement extension is easier, but I do have my reasons for changing.

Thanks

Lopburi, you have any idea please?

No change has been reported, but recently some people seem to have been told to come back in 60 days instead of the normal 30 days. it might mean there is a back log and they don't want people to apply early as to work away the back log.

Still go a week before the expiry date, don't leave it til the very last day.

Thanks Mario.

This happen a few months ago to a fella I know. he went in a week early for his retirement extension of stay and they told him to come back in a week. He went back a week later and it was done and approved, all they told him was too early the week before.

They are very busy there with a very small office try and use the on line Q system as I had went in a couple of weeks early and no problem but had an appointment. The above fella had no appointment.
