Krabi - Malaysia Visa Run And A 60 Day Visa

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been already covered

I am in Ao Nang at the moment and need to to do a Visa run soon

has anyone here done this?

I think I need to go to Hat yai then to buttersworth?

What is the best way to get there on the cheap?

Can I apply for a 60 day visa when I get there and then return the way I came?

How long does it take and how much does it cost to get the 60 day Visa?

Any help on this would be much appreciated as can not fly due to money problems!

Hat Yai is transport hub and from there South can be train/plane/bus/van/taxi to Butterworth/Georgetown on Penang Island where there is a Thai Consulate. At least one night stay would be required and visa would be about 1,000 baht in Malaysian currency. There are vans running from many tourist agent stores in Hat Yai direct to Georgetown but expect most will be too late for morning visa application so that would mean next morning apply and following afternoon pickup. There are many agents in Penang who can do for cost of taxi fares to Consulate but if doing yourself be sure you know where the Consulate is and what bus to take for return as it is outside downtown area a bit.

Just take a minibus to Phuket airport (about 2.5-3 hour ride). Fly AirAsia to Kuala Lumpur, stay overnight due to Thai embassy schedule, then return the next day and bus to Ao Nang.

Read the comments here on KL Thai embassy procedures. Buy AA tickets well in advance to get lowest cost; I have done the r/t for 4k baht.

There are a bunch of (cheap) minibus tour shops that go to Penang outside the train station in Hat Yai. If you leave Ao Nang very early in the morning, you should be able to get to Hat Yai (make sure to tell them you want to be dropped off at the train station so as to save you time and a taxi ride) and on to Penang in time to give your passport to an agent, who will be able to have it back for you the next afternoon. You will be cutting it very close, but it is possible. To be honest, you won't be saving a lot of money doing it on your own, and the few hundred baht saved -in my eyes- is well worth the comfort of knowing you'll find your way on time without getting lost! Unless, of course, you like the adventure :)

I thought 60 day visas were about 2000 baht? Unless prices have changed? It's been a while, I could be wrong :)

A tourist visa is 1,000 baht per entry. You probably got a double entry, that is why 2,000 baht.

Lads thats great, thanks for the info, Keeniau96, that was my original intention on how I was gonna go about it but I left it to late to book and flights are expensive right now. Sun Spun I do like an adventure but I might just spend the extra money and get the tourist bus to penang, stay a day or 2 and get my visa if it still works out cheaper than the flights, i will see how i feel.

just one more thing, is it neccessary to go all the way to buttersworth or george town, is it not possible to just get it all done at the sadao border or somewhere near by

You need to make application for a visa at a Consulate and although there are a choice of agents on Penang do not know of any/ near border - it is actually only about a two hour drive on good highways.

No...Must be a Consulate and closest one is in Penang.
