Featured Replies

Hard times indeed when 80 baht is to expensive for a meal, how tragic.

Especially for a Western meal. I often see Thais spending more than that in cheap food stalls.

Don't think it's tragic at all; just for an ordinary weekday lunch I don't think you necessarily want to splurge everyday. Actually it would be nice to do a list of places that are proper restaurants but still 'Chiang Mai -priced'. Places like Boat, Pop-Am and a bunch of places near CMU.

There are places that one can get decent Western meals for much less than 80 baht? Other than salad only restaurants, I can't think of any. Sunee's Juice Bar or Gecko Garden have some real bargains, but the Western dishes are more than that.

Food and drinks at Jo's bakery in Ban Nam Prae (west of Hang Dong) are pretty reasonable as well.

German homecooking fare.

Boat on Huay Kaew fits the bill. Things like burgers and pasta dishes are like 48 baht. And that's in a super popular area on a main road.

Also, there is Bee Hiang near Payap. That's inside this soi, on the right: http://goo.gl/maps/8Srmu They do nice steak dishes.

And there is this on on Suthep Road: http://goo.gl/maps/j5hsS Garden seating is at the back.

There are dozens more actually. Some of them do suffer from SMS (Sweet-Mayonnaise-Syndrome), so beware of salads. I intentionally picked some places as far apart as possible; they're probably too far away for most tourist-ghetto dwellers, who probably consider anything further away than Butter is Better to be on a different continent... ..of course those are the same folks who think 150 baht for any Western dish is a good deal. wink.png

150 baht.. that's like US$ 5! Could have stayed in Kansas at those prices!

They're google maps / google streetview links. So whatever piece of software is advising you not to open them is a bit out to lunch.
