Maybe they were just testing the switches, so they can make a blackout if the big 'expats meet up' tonight should go out of control. tongue.png

Has there even been any instances where only part of the electric supply was lost instead of all ?

still working out if thats a serious question .

If the main supply to your house is interrupted.....you lose everything, lights, aircon, pumps

UNLESS you own a 7/11 then you will have a back up generator

if you have overloaded your own domestic system or got some dodgy wiring somewhere, then your consumer unit will shut down the approriate circuit; so you may just lose lighting, or ground floor power, or electric oven.

On the same basis the electricity generating station will have a mega size cosumer unit, split into regions, or even street lighting, reservoirs, pump stations etc.

So when lightning strikes a power line,or if a line comes down then maybe only a few buildings are affected but a strike on a pylon will take out a region until they literally throw the switch back.

Well thats the basic principle.
