This guy was about 1.5 cm thick and a little less than a meter long.

Found him outside the house, but he has since disappeared.

Looks like a Keelback to me. They like water so if you live near to a Klong, Pond, Lake or whatever, you are likely to get them in the garden. Not deadly to man but they do bite if bothered and it's not a nice bite !

Indo Chinese Sand Snake (Psammophis condenarus Indochinensis) Grows to 110 cm.

Looks more like a Mock Viper to me - http://www.siam-info.de/english/snakes_psamnodynastes.html they are mainly present in the south of Thailand and harmless.

I'm not so sure it's any of those.

I should mention that I'm in Chiang Mai, and my house is right by a small swamp/marsh area.

Looks like a rat snake, from those longitudinal stripes. Harmless, unless you're a rat

Its not a rat snake or the keelbacks we have around Nakhon Sawan. Not see one of those before.

correct.. it's non of the species mentioned above.

Your snake is rather an interesting one - Oligodon dorsolateralis. Its a species of Kukri snake.

Very little info available on this particular one & not many photo's on the web, but you can see it here at Siamensis.org
