QAZI AHMED, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A group of unidentified gunmen attacked a passenger bus in southern Pakistan on late Friday evening, killing seven passengers and the bus driver, police said on Saturday. Dozens more were injured.

The attack happened when gunmen riding two motorcycles forced the bus to stop on the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed, a town in the Shaheed Benazir Abad District of Sindh province. The men allowed some people to exit the bus before opening fire at the vehicle.

Police said the gunmen fired indiscriminately at the bus, killing six passengers and bus driver Haji Abdul Ghaffar at the scene. A seventh passenger succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a local hospital, raising the death toll to eight. More than 30 others were injured, many seriously.

The gunmen were able to flee the scene on their motorbikes, a district police official said, adding that the motive for the attack was not immediately known. The bus, owned by the Al-Sanobar Coach Company, had left the port city of Karachi earlier on Friday and was heading for Kohat in northern Pakistan.

In late February, suspected Taliban gunmen stopped a passenger bus in a mountainous district in northwestern Pakistan. The gunmen ordered the 26 Shiite passengers to exit the vehicle before executing 18 of them at the scene. The remaining eight people on board were critically injured.

The Taliban executing civilians in Pakistan? How does this affect their "Afghanistan freedom fighter" position?

Apparently not the Taliban on this occasion. See below:

Sindh separatists (similar to Baluch separatism) opposed to perceived Punjab domination of Pakistan. Similarly the Taliban are majority Pushtun who straddle the AfPak border (aka the Durand Line), another British legacy, and thus able to operate either side of the "border".

The Taliban are by no means the only show in town when it comes to violent acts within Pakistan.
