Help Urgently Required Regards Immigration Office, Visa And Work Permits

Featured Replies

Before I go any further I'll put this as easily as I can but I'm sure it will still be incredibly confusing as I'm not good with explaining things so please let me know if it is and I'll try and re-explain

Basically I applied for an office job in Thailand through a recruitment company online, (I live in England at the minute)

I got the job and received and signed letters of employment, contract agreements and a starting date for the job arranged already.

Then the recruitment agent is sorting my visa out for me and all has seemed normal up to now, (apart from I'm fairly certain there taking me for a ride with there fees) but they reply promptly to every request of mine and seemed to be sorting it out quickly until now.

There telling me that they have my visa and work permit documents in Thailand but they need to post an original copy to me so I can take it to my local thai embassy which seemed fair enough to me so I paid them some DHL fees and they assured me it would be sent out yesterday after a week of waiting for immigration apparently.

Now today I received this email :

Good evening Mr. X

We were informed by the immigration office yesterday to provide an

original flight ticket before they can transmitte your visa sticker to the

loca Thai Embassy in UK. Meanwhile i spoke to (Company A the company that is employing me)

yesterday concerning this issue but they are refusing to provide your

flight ticket without presenting a copy of your issued visa to them.

Right now i dont know how to solve this issue, if you can provise us with

the flight money to buy your flight ticket here and present it to the

immigration in order for your visa to be transmitted to the embassy in UK,

then you can receive a refund from (Company A the company that is employing me) upon

presenting a copy of your visa to them. I have been to my travel agent and

the ticket price is $1,230 USD.

This is why i couldnt mailed out your documents out today. Once we have

your flight ticket and your visa sticker transmitted to the embassy in

your country then i can mail out your documents to your address including

the report of the transmission. Once your receive the documents, you dont

need to do anything more, just submit the documents to the local Thai

Embassy there for your visa issuance.

I hope you act fast regarding this ticket issue so we can get this done.

I've removed the name of the companies as I don't want people to think I'm accusing them of any wrong doings.

I don't totally understand the email although I'm pretty certain there trying to take me for a ride so to speak, and I've already got a flight ticket obviously I'm not going to send them 1,230USD to do this for me.

I've told them that I'll be contacting the employer myself and spoke to my Thai embassy but they don't really know what I'm going on about to be honest

ANY help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from any kind people

Sounds like a total scam - visas for Thailand are not handled in any such way and jobs are not found on websites.

I was about to ask if the agency is based in Nigeria.

Sorry can't be positive about this in any way

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Not exactly the news I wanted to hear but at least you are been honest with me smile.png I would be very cautious usually but the fact that they sent me a letter of employment and a contract to sign and everything seems a bit extreme to scam me out of a few hundred quid or so

If I wanted to find a job to go to in Thailand from UK how would be best to go about getting one then? Is there not any legitimate websites that advertise them?

I actually found out about this job on the jobsabroad.com website which a couple of my friends have used for volunteering positions abroad before so that's why I was a bit more trustworthy maybe sad.png

Unless you have some fantastic skill office jobs typically filled by Thais.

To be fair it's my own fault I obviously got a bit overexcited and ahead of myself because I've wanted to visit Thailand for so long that I just saw this as an opportunity since I can't technically afford to go traveling.

I was going to go as an English teacher as I'm good at dealing with people but don't have a degree and to be honest companies saying I could get a job teaching without a degree made me think it was a scam, oh well live and learn eh, I'd like to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else through this particular company is there anyone I could report them too? I'm sure they just reappear under different company names all the time though.

I even searched on google for the company name and the word scam after which I always do and there were no links at all

My experience has always been that I had to turn up at the office with the company rep' and be there to sign etc for issue of the work permit and I'm prepared to admit I may be wrong but a Non-B is issued outside Thailand not from immigration in Thailand.

I just can't see the labour office anywhere issuing a work permit to an agency to post to someone, I mean have they asked you for photographs etc etc of the proper size and background colour etc etc.

Missed your reply above when I was posting.

Its a scam and a variation on nigerian "admin" fee scam, something similar was reported by a TV member from a supposed "Malaysian" company a couple of weeks back in the business section.

General rule boys and girls...do not ever pay over any money for admin fees, visa fees air tickets etc to recruitment companies or "lawyers"....reputable recruitment agencies do not operate this way

Maybe you need to go on a holiday and check out the companies in person. Or do a google search to see if there is any bad feedback.

Post the company name, as its not 'naming and shaming'.

Where do you suggest he goes on holiday ?....Nigeria,

I will bet if you look hard enough within the info provided, you will determine that the scammers are based in Nigeria

Well, given the recruitment company and the company he is "going to work for" are supposedly in Thailand, maybe he should go to Thailand to check them out.

IF they ARE legitimate companies, he's not going to find them by going to Nigeria.

Are you sure the companies concerned are based in Thailand ?

My bet is the companies dont even exist....its a scam..they are not legimate....no reputable company operates in this manner.....if the OP doesnt believe me....pay over the $1200 for the air ticket, and see what happens....It will the the last you will hear of your money or job....thumbsup.gif

Scam my friend total scam work permit and Visa,s are not acquired this way don't send any money you will loose it .

Sorry but it's true ...

At this point immigration would not even come into play in regards to your visa. Work Permits have to be obtained in person.

Come to Thailand and then look for a job teaching, if you can.

Hate to say anything negative, but.....

Legitimate school or company would send you the proper documents for you to go to your local Thai Embassy. A ticket out is not always necessary.

I agree, but he's not going to find out if they are legitimate by going to Nigeria, is he?

Best advise is don't pay anything, and get someone here to check it out.

Maybe you could name the companies involved, if TVF will allow it. It may help others.

You can get a job teaching here without a degree, a diploma is sufficient. You will have to be here to find the job.

Sounds like a scam for sure. Easiest way in my opinion is to locate the IP address on the email sent to you and then use an IP locator to see where the email originated from. Its fairly easy to do.

But its a scam for sure. You could also tell them that yo have the ticket bought....and you can fwd them a copy of the eticket because that's all you were issued and require. See what there response is.

Definitely a scam, cut your losses and don't waste any more time contacting them. Like others have said, unless you have specific skills that are in demand here or get transferred here by the company you already work for, you won't get an office job in Thailand.

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post ever, I'm Thai, btw.

In Thailand, when company has to issue work permit to their foreigner staffs, the company must show the company registration capital + your salary declaration and many other papers to the Labour Department, @ Dindeang-Bangkok. Once Labour Dpt issued you a work permit, the company will have to submit report paper to Immigration and so on inorder to continue renew work permit next time. This process is usually the company's accountant or HR will help you on this matter (and on company cost not you). Whatever way, you must come to Thailand with Business visa inorder to proceed for work permit (the company will issue an invitation letter for you to apply the visa at your homeland). And work permit can only be issued directly from Labour Department in Thailand only.

Hope this is help ;-)

He was coming here as an English teacher...not an office job..whistling.gif

He clearly said office job however.

Post #6 "I was going to go as an English teacher "....so maybe the OP wasnt sure what he was coming here for..laugh.png

I answered an ad in the Bangkok Post, they wanted a foreigner to answer the phones on the night shift, calls coming to a jewelry business from the U.S. Customers did not know that the phone was being answered in Thailand, that is why they wanted a foreigner, (Native English Speaker) The pay was 50,000 Bhat a month. I was interviewed twice, everthing was ligitimate, but someone else got the job. I had been running my own jewelry manufacturing business in Mexico for 6 years previously, and they may have thought that I would try to take away some of their customers....But it was an office job, a foreigner was the manager, but not the owner.
