fabianfred
It starts with a guy on a white horse examining his opium poppy fields whilst a young tribal girl is gathering the raw opium and he tells her to present herself at his base that evening. I think the story ends up in a warlords base in the jungle in Burma and all is eventually destroyed by US helicopter attack. Anyone know the name? and author. Semper
Sounds like he was examining the girl more than the poppy fields. Sorry can't help you with this one.

BuddhistVirus
I would like to know too. I haven't read it or even heard of the novel yet. Sounds interesting, maybe because of the white horse.

fabianfred
Although i like all of Stephen Leather's books....that is not the one I mean. Different author. I remember part of the story has a guy and also I think a girl, who have been captured by an opium drug lord and taken to his jungle camp. Whilst there, a couple of the lords men who have been caught trying to cheat him are killed by impaling upon bamboo. She ends up in his cesspit and they are saved as the heli strike goes in and causes confusion. Edited May 30, 2012 by fabianfred
AJS 7R
It's Thai gold by Jason Schoonover, it doesn't start with the rider on the white horse, but he appears later.
yermanee
It's Thai gold by Jason Schoonover, it doesn't start with the rider on the white horse, but he appears later. No it's not, it is as mentioned above " The solitary man " by Stephen Leather. However the novel starts with a prisoner escaping in a small airplane. On page 7 the druglord on his white horse appears, and the story ends with a helicopter attack in the Burmese jungle. If you like that one then I also recommend " Thai Horse" by William Diehl. Hope to have helped Yermanee

orientalist
It's Thai gold by Jason Schoonover, it doesn't start with the rider on the white horse, but he appears later. Argh! One of the worst Thailand books ever written. I gave up after about 40 pages.

I remember reading it and thinking what a macho, nay, misogynistic piece of crap that book was. the book was so far-fetched, it made clive culssler appear plausible.
