January 5, 200620 yr So there I was sitting on a chair in tesco/lotus yesterday eating a donut when this yank comes past me and asks if I am well and thrusts a piece of leaflet in my hand and departs with a "God Bless You" As I have nothing better to do while my Wife is shopping for food for her restaurant I give it a cursory glance. On the back it says that God is willing to forgive all my sins etc, and on the front it boldly states that "The Romans are coming", as I really did not have any interest in any of this I just left the leaflet on the chair and went to find my Wife. we arrived at the restaurant about an hour later and within 10 minutes a big red coach arrives... so what ? you may say. Well firstly she has NEVER had a coach visit her place, mini-busses yes, coaches no. So all the staff are running round like headless chickens as the place is busy already. Anyway they all disembark and proceed to take their places at various tables which are hurridly pushed together to cater for such a large group. I am at this point sitting in the background and happen to notice their accents thinking "oh they are Italians" Then the penny drops..... so I wander up to their table and introduce myself to the guy who looks like he is the head of the family as the husband of the restaurant owner. I ask him where they are from "ROME" is his answer. Well I can tell you that I was gobsmacked... I mean <deleted> does this mean??? They spent 3 hours there and spent more than any individual group has spent since my Wife bought the restaurant 4 months ago. What does this mean? I can't begin to explain this... a Miricle??? Complete coincidence? What are the odds? Why did it have to be something to do with religion when I have recently turned my back on God in favour of Bhudda? I just can't get this out of my head. I wanted to share it with you as SOMEONE might be able to give me a rational answer to this. Thank you for taking the time to read this diatribe. TP Edited January 5, 200620 yr by ThaiPauly
January 5, 200620 yr You probably should be thankful that the guy at Lotus didn't say "Repent your sins" and thrust a leaflet into your hands with the words.."The end of the world is nigh." A coincidence such as that would not be nice.......and stop eating those donuts too. Think of your waistline.

January 5, 200620 yr I hope the next leaflet does not have "Reading just miss out on promotion again" on it,lol
January 5, 200620 yr I don't believe in coincedence. I believe it is the 'cosmic joker' at work. Too many 'coincedences' have happened to me for them to be random.
January 5, 200620 yr Clearly it means that god has chosen you to become celibate...so might as well cut it off and feed the ducks.

January 6, 200620 yr Clearly it means that god has chosen you to become celibate...so might as well cut it off and feed the ducks. <deleted>??? are you on about Chon? You on the Chang's already? Some people get moments of inspiration.....somethimes I get moments of...I don't know what to call it....anti-inspiration maybe....its when I have a really dumb idea and simultaneously I do not have the presence of mind to just forget it.....sorry!!! There was a chain of thought that led to my pointless comment but its so uninteresting that even I don't want to try to dredge it up from memory......my on-line existence has been a bit boring and uninspired lately....but my farming has been great!!!

January 6, 200620 yr There is no such thing as coincidence... every thing happens for a reason! (according to The Celestine Prophecies- a great cult classic in the '90's- by James Redfield) I personally think the book sucked but the philosophies are there............... Anyboy else read it?
January 7, 200620 yr So there I was sitting on a chair in tesco/lotus yesterday ......and on the front it boldly states that "The Romans are coming", as I really did not have any interest in any of this I just left the leaflet on the chair and went to find my Wife. Does anyone understand the reference to "The Romans are coming"? Not that I'm schooled at all in religion, but I've just never seen anything about Romans coming. Now if it said, "The Lord is coming", and and "Bob Lord" came to dine, then I'd say brush it off. I can see why this is a strange coincidence. But if this is a common evangelical theme, then I think it falls into the wait for another sign category.
January 7, 200620 yr Count your blessings it didnt say the English were coming So....what have the Romans ever done for us? A numerical system we didnt adopt A language we couldnt understand They did make great roads though...
January 11, 200620 yr [quote name=Why did it have to be something to do with religion when I have recently turned my back on God in favour of Bhudda? I believe God and Budda are considered to be the same.

Anyboy else read it? I read those books... That was the first, and there were two more I think, The Shambala Somthing, and another one... I dunno, Redfield got too carried away IMHO... Not bad little Adventure novels. Certain philosphies I did dig a la dude. So....what have the Romans ever done for us? Whorehouses, Communal Baths, Invented a lot to do with modern warfare.... On and On and On... Oh and here is what Ask jeeves Says...: sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, Don't forget the showersAlso, the dimensions of the Space Shuttle's solid booster rockets. And the notion that one city-state creating a massive military machine and using it to conquer and oppress the rest of the world is a wondrous and glorious thing. Well, okay, they didn't quite invent the idea. But they certainly did an excellent job of promoting it. Didn't they kill Jesus? another source got through jeeves...: Architecture Art Literature Language (Latin) Sanitation (sewage) Aqueducts Education Irrigation ( water supply) The calendar Coins Cement and bricks Public heated baths Turnips and carrots Paved streets and pavements Apples, pears and grapes Benefits (free food) for poor citizens Roads Wine Cats Stinging nettles Towns Glass Street Cleaners Shops Laws Tenement Blocks Public order Firemen and Police Parks Cabbages & peas Public libraries Public notices and advertisements Literature and then of course the immortal lines from: The life of BrianReg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? Attendee: Brought peace? Reg: Oh, peace - shut up! Reg: There is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this country of the Romans once and for all. Dissenter: Uh, well, one. Reg: Oh, yeah, yeah, there's one. But otherwise, we're solid.
