So here's the deal. I know this is asking a lot but...what's the harm in asking?

Have a hugely important trip as it will likely be the last time my kids will see their grandparents and even if that weren't the case it's a rare and important thing to see them anyway.

I need a hotel under 1,000 baht a night (per room) not far from Night Market, and would really hope for a swimming pool (either at the hotel or one nearby that would be cheap to use) and either free or cheap Wi-Fi. Oh, and it has to have an elevator! We've got 2 kids and 2 senior citizens with us so some places are more suitable than others, I guess.

I'm sorry if I've missed the proper thread somewhere and sorry for asking such a newbie type question but despite decades in Thailand I barely know CM, haven't been there for ages, and have only stayed with friends while there.

I need to get this sorted NOW. Please help if you can. Thanks very much in advance

Royal Lanna Hotel. In the heart of the night market. Has a roof top pool, has wifi, elevators, and breakfast. about 20 floors. Not new but all what your asking for. Nothing specail but safe and decent. Can rent by the day, week, month or year

IMO the best deal in the area is the Central Duangtawan with swimming pool, gym, elevator, etc. The price is usually not far off from what you are asking, but it changes depending on the time of year.

possibly the most difficult part of your search will be finding the right time to be here IF the lantern festival is on your list of activities. The parades and celebrations downtown and city-wide are well scheduled in advance, but that pesky lantern festival is a moving target.

You are coming in high season. Both the hotels mentioned are out of your price range in low season. If you were lucky in low season you might get them for 1,200 baht.

How many days are you coming for?

Are you aware that this year it is going to be in late November on the 28th. I know of one at the east end of the iron bridge that I believe would fit your needs. Not sure about the elevator though but you can get a ground floor unit. I believe it is the river hotel or some thing like that. At any rate I will take a look at it tomorrow and post it up for you. I used to have the card but threw it away.sad.png

Thanks so much people. Yes, I know it's not the best time of year in terms of finding what I need at the price I need it but it's a special request from my parents -- they were in Chiang Mai for Loy Krathong a few times in the past and are determined to see it once again. But for important reasons I'll not get into, the budget is extremely constrained.

In the past we rented some really nice houses in Hua Hin for very reasonable rpices. Any ideas about the feasibility of that in CM (somewhere near the night market)?

Zippy: Thanks. We do want to see it for sure...hope we can figure that out.

Dolly: Really appreciate the effort and look forward to your post.

Was wondering if you were looking for two or three rooms. If two rooms how big. I don't really think you can get a house in the area at that time of the year how long were you planing on staying?

Two rooms actually. Kids are 8 and 3 so too young to stay alone (but big enough to be considered in terms of space). How big? Don't know -- the bigger the better depending on price.

I did find a house that rents daily but haven't heard back yet and am not sure that's what I want to do anyway.

We'll stay5 or 6 days I think. Not more than 7.

HD (or anyone) -- any comment on the Top North Hotel? I read some reviews that mentioned it was very noisy due to bars and Thai boxing nearby?

its during the high season, 1k per room is alittle tight but since its a rare occasion why not just up the budget to 1.5k?

you might consider renting a vehicle during the week stay and a hotel alittle further away, with that you could probably open up various other choices

Most probably the Diamond Riverside..November rates are 1200 baht per double per night

I gather you want two rooms.

Central, close to the night market, and by the river, with a pool (!) would definitely be more expensive during the high season. Try just west of Nimmenhamen and refer to a site like Travel Advisor (or whatever they call it) looking at a map at the same time. There's a string of cheapish hotel called B2 that have recently started up, but no pools, I believe.

Transportation is not expensive in town. With your gang, it will cost you a little more than 100 baht a ride to move within the city by songtaew, the cheapest and handiest way to travel. I would definitely not recommend renting a car and driving yourself.

Centra Duangtawan Hotel

Double 2,300 baht a nite

room for you and the kids 3,000 baht a nite.

They said check out there web site for a better price.

Royal Lanna

1,000 baht a nite for a double

1,800 a nite for you and the kids.

wwwroyallannahotel.co.th

Check that one out I made sure they understood it was for Lo Kertong and they assured me of the prices. that isa wehat they are getting for today.

The other one is the riverside house.

It is 500 baht for standard room

700 baht for superior room

and 900 baht for Delux room

extra beds are 300 baht each. It is only two story building so no elevator needed. This price includes breakfast and is only 5 to 10 minute walk to Night Bazaar and three minute walk to the Narawwhat bridge wher munch of the activities will bee held. It is on the east end of Thai Pai road. The parade will go up Thai Pai road from Thai Pai gate and turn left at the bridge.

Also try

Prince Hotel in Chiang Mai

You will have to google it but I think it fits all your requirements except it is about a 15 minute walk to the Night Bazaar.

Basically a "short time" hotel and definitely not suitable for young children and the elderly. You would be better off looking at the Star hotel just behind the Duang Tawan and right on the night bazaar. Great breakfast, clean, and 1200 baht. for a double room.
