Non Immi - O, Shipping Personals Possible?

Thought I would like to double-check if holders of Non-Immigrant "O" 12 Month Multiple-Entry Visas can ship in Personal Effects re Thai Customs? I have a Thai Wife and have applied for an extension of 365 Days max before my first 90 days expired. My extension is still in the pipe-line a month and a half later. I am not sure about the shipping details regarding Thai Custom's point of view.

Do I have to wait, or can I just go ahead and merrily ship away?

Do you have a work permit?

Why don't you ship to your wife?

Essentially yes you should be able to ship OK. Tax on vehicles, wine etc., but not on personals. Just one of each electronic/electrical item. Make the shipping list very very detailed.

Did this last year in February - A half container from Scotland.

Ensure that you have an itenary - listing the items in individual boxes - not every item - eg clothes - ornaments - kitchen equipment etc. You have to provide this list to the shippers (in the UK) and keep a few copies for yourself.

As long as the items are deemed as used (over 6 months old- when shipped) and you only have one of each expensive item - eg - plasma tv - dishwasher - etc then you will have no problems at all.

If you are buying new items to bring to Thailand - eg Bread machine etc then ensure that you have at least opened the items before packing them so they look like they have been used!

I would think it better to ship the belongings in your wifes name.

Assuming you will be in Thailand when the items arrive the handling company will call your wife just when they arrive and she will have to send her passport to the handling company.

In the passport they enter the fact that personal belongings were imported - and list the most expensive - this is so she does not do the same the following month!!

Make sure you obtain the name of the Thai Handling company and a phone number for them before you ship the goods - (Your UK agent will provide this for you)

I had arranged door to door shipping - we live in Buriram so I did not want to collect from the port at BKK.

I was very pleased with the whole procedure - Everything went smoothly - we paid nothing extra at all - bar the Passport EMS cost to Bangkok, and the lift boxes were delivered about 14 days after we sent the passport - which itself was returned within about a week.
