knod
Hi, this week i have to go to Savannakhet to get a new Tourist Visa. I've got a couple of questions regarding this trip, if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. 1. Can I just take Thai Baht or do I need to change it for kip before I go? If I need to change to Kip can I change it in Savannakhet easy enough? Or should I do it where I live in BKK? sorry bit of a dumb question. 2. For the Laos Visa is it the same as Cambodia, if I pay in US dollars does it work out cheaper or can I just pay in baht? 3. Can anyone confirm how much a tuk tuk from Laos Immigration to the Thai Consulate costs? The Thaivisa.com visa run guide thing says 20b (I guess for a shared tuk tuk?) where as some other guides are saying like 100-200 baht?
haveaniceday
You pay at the border, 2 years ago it used to be cheaper in USD, not sure about now. Just get kip there, no problem with that. I added up the van from the airport to the border, bridge crossing tuk tuk, tuk tuk to hotel, hotel to consolute rtn both dasy and reverse, Why don't you give the ad to the right at the casino ago, includes that, a nice room, a massage and 3 meals a day. The numbers add up.
knod
Yes I think I might use the visa run service and save myself the hassle. Any idea what time the VIP buses leave Mukdahan for Bangkok?
steven100
Buses leave from Mukdahan every hour for Bangkok. Some are VIP and some are standard ...
Colabamumbai
Laos visa prices vary by nationality. always cheaper to pay in U.S. Everyone will accept your Bhat in Laos 25 kip per one bhat.
Thanyaburi Mac
Just use baht in Savannakhet, altho if the change is small, it'll probably be in kip. The kip is now about kip 251 = baht 1 http://www.bol.gov.la/english/index1.php Mac
Javabear
You will need a passport photo for Laos immigration unless you get your visa ahead of time. I was there in January and the visa fee was $35 US of 1500 THB. There are no taxis or tuk-tuks at the airport in Savannakhet so you will need to make arrangements ahead of time. Everywhere I went Baht were accepted and the pricing was in Baht so it is unlikely that you will need Kip for anything.
DennyEagle
I found things are cheaper in kip, tuk tuks are not cheap in Savanakhet, $35 US currency will save You money for the lao visa. Just spent a week there.
ubonjoe
It appears you are traveling overland. There is a bus that goes from the bus station in Mukdahan to Savannaket bus station. It stops at the bridge for Thai immigration and Lao visa/immigration. You can get tuk tuks at bus station. The bridge is is several kilometers from Mukdahan city so it works out cheaper to take the bus from the bus station. There is also a booth just before Thai immigration at the bridge where you can also buy the ticket for the bus and then get on it after immigration. haveaniceday
Any tips on the most secure area to park a car on the Thai side for a 1 night stay Savannakhet ?
ubonjoe
Just before you go through the gate at bridge there are secure parking areas (not free). Their may also be some near the bus terminal in Mudahan where you could park and take the bus from there verses doing it at the bridge.
