I am not very tech-savvy so forgive any glaring omissions/inaccuracies/ignorance.

I view three on-line UK newspapers every day. I am struck by how few pop-ups are to found on The Telegraph and The Guardian, yet the number found on The Daily Mail. Most have flashing lights and are in Thai. Others tell me I am a prizewinner etc.

I have sought help on the Net & been able to turn on the pop-up blocker & raise the level to maximum.

I use Chrome to access the internet. I know there are commercial products available but this merely an irritation.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Chrome has a "block popup" setting. Have you checked Wrench -> Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> Privacy -> Content Settings (in the Privacy section) -> Do not allow any site to show pop-ups?

However, it's not 100% effective. For example, I still get popunders from Tripadvisor. I vaguely recall that popups triggered from within Flash are difficult to block. However, if that's the cause of the problem, just block automatically running flash using an extension such as FlashBlock.
