Global Peace Index For 2011 - Thailand At Number 126.

Featured Replies

An interesting interactive map: Global Peace Index for 2011.

It shows Thailand sitting at number 126 out of 158 countries. Probably as much to due with the bombings in the south as with passionate politics. Another interesting point is Laos is listed as number 37, and Vietnam at number 34 while Cambodia ranks number 108. Seems most of our neighbours are doing a little better but, how that is done is another story. As a comparison: France – 40, Italy – 38, England – 29, Canada – 4, US – 88.

I'd be interested in reading a discussion about how it is Laos and Vietnam (from those who have traveled or lived there) have found seeming internal peace while Thailand seems to be mired near the bottom of the list.

I am a bit sceptical of what these results actually indicate. It lists Thailand behind Egypt, Uganda, Efritrea, Angola, Tunisia and many more countries i would consider less at peace than Thailand.

That is a good point. If you do a comparison between Angola and Thailand, you see a much higher rate of "perceived" crime in Angola, but lower rates of organized violence ie. political or terrorist organizations. Not as much to fight over there I guess.
