Hi,

Would someone kindly give me some advice regarding my Visa renewal?

My current non-immigrant O visa (Fiest year) runs out 17th January 2006.

Due to having most of my cash tied up in land with a sleeping Ltd company of which I am the Managing Director, and a new non-Ltd business that my wife runs brought on by the Indian Ocean Tsumani (loss of previous business) I do not have enough cash in my bank account (400,000 baht) for the renewal.

Therefore, what are my options?

I have never done a visa run before, but the way i see it is this;

Drive from Phuket to Ranong and use the Club Andaman service to the hotel and back for whatever its costs these days, say 500/600 baht or so.

But the real question is this; Would I get a 30, 60 or 90 day re-entry permit?

Can I present immigration with a letter from my Ltd company signed by me requesting a 90 day stay for investment purposes?

Sorry, but I'm very confused with all this.

Alternatively, is there a better solution?

Many thanks in advance...

It appears your extension of stay expires on 17 January. Right? That means you do not have a valid visa and any exit of the country will only get you a 30 day entry without visa.

So you best option until you can get your money in order is to make a trip to Penang with your marriage certificate and a copy of ID card of wife (or have her go with you) and obtain a multi entry O visa. That will provide you a 90 day stay on each entry until you can get it together again and apply for another extension of stay.

You did not mention any work permit but if you do this you will have to have work permit to match each 90 day stay so a little extra leg work will be involved.

Thanks for you help...

Yes, expires the 17th January 2006. I no longer have a work permit, I let it go when my previous business went into the sea! and my current Ltd company is sleeping while I try to sell the land it owns.

So I take it this creates a further problem?

It will not make things easier getting a visa but believe you still will be able to obtain a non immigrant O visa from Penang. I would take any bank account information you have just in case however.

Once again, many thanks...

Do you know the cost of the immigrant O visa these days?

Further on this point, because my current visa is a Non-Immigrant O multiple entry that was granted a 12 month stay, if I do a visa run to Ranong before the 17th January 2006 would I get a 3 month re-entry permit?

You told me above that your "extension of stay" expired on January 17th. Which is it?

If you have a valid, non expired, multi entry non immigrant visa (the kind issued by a Consulate) any entry prior to expiration results in a 90 day permitted to stay stamp.

If you have extended your stay at immigration for one year already (which your post indicates you have) you do not have a valid multi entry visa and any travel must have a re entry permit just to provide the normal extension.

Your fist post says you do not have the 400k required for renewal, and as this is not required for a multi entry visa believe you were talking about another one year extension of stay.

After another read of your last post it appears you are trying to keep your candy and eat it too. No; you will not obtain a 90 day entry. You will be visa less and only obtain a 30 day entry stamp. Sorry. Good try.

Confusion... Let me explain on checking my passport once again...

Extension of stay up to 17th Jan 2006 and Visa expiry date 13 Jan 2006.

So I take it I will get 90 days if I do the Ranong visa run before 13th Jan 2006?

Sorry for the miss understanding...

Why not do a quick Visa run now, and you will get another 90 days.

You must re-enter the country before the 13th of Jan. Then you can get some time to get your affairs in order.

Maybe I should add:

My Non-Immigrant O visa was issued in KL on 14th Jan 2005 and to save doing 90 day runs, I applied for a 12 month extension to stay on soon after my return to Thailand on 18th Jan 2005.

Was I correct in doing this?

Normally it would have been a waste of money to obtain a multi entry if doing that but in your case it seems to be a good result. Just run for the border before it expires.

The return date is the key. You could have applied for the extension (normal) after 2 months or about 18 March and the expiration date would still have been the same 17 January date.
