Regional Code And Other Original Xbox Questions

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

what's up?

I bought a XBox in Germany (PAL and 220 Volts). Now I would like to buy "Half Life 2" for it. It's not on Ebay in Germany. But on Ebay.com

Q1: Would the American game run on it?

Q2: Are games like HL 2 sold here in Thailand? A link would be great.

Q3: Which region code falls Thailand under? J or Europe? Sorry for my ignorance!

Q4: I also bought a PS2 slim in the U.S. Would the local games work here?

Or would this require a change of the ";regions settings"?

And should I buy a 220 Volts power supply for it?

NTSC relies on 60 Hz, but here we have a 50 Hz cycle. Would this matter with a new TV? I think modern LCD TVs like SHARP's Aquous (?) line handle every region...

Sorry for the newbie questions!

Am trying to start gaming on a tough small budget

Q1 depends on the game some don't have any region restrictions and some do looking on the net there's a pal version and a region free version so if it's from USA it's region free and will work.

Q2 yeah there's loads of xbox games in thailand but u will need ur xbox flashed to at them. Thailand has such a massive counterfeit problem companies like Microsoft don't bother operating there.

Q3

Mostly all Xbox's in thailand are imported from Japan so NTSC-j

Q4 no idea :-)

U can get ur Xbox flashed in thailand then play back ups sold in the shops but u need to read up on it a bit first especially if u like Xbox live

i assume you take about the old xbox released 10 years ago, get it flashed, doesn't need a chip just two straps to allow the bios to be flashed and a custom bios, there you go :)

for the ps2 you have to get it chipped and you'll need an adapter as yours will be 110V while thailand does use 220V.

no worries for frequency on LCD tv screen, it was just a problem on NTSC CRT TV as they were not multi standard, european CRT TVs are/were multistandard since more than 15 years.
