June 19, 201214 yr Just to let you know that theblether ( that's me ) and Smokie36 ( that's him ) will be arriving in CM on Saturday 21st of July. We're leaving on the morning of the 26th to go to Samui. Now Smokie has never been to CM, and I was telling him that the CM membership of TV are most urbane, witty, interesting and informative people you could ever hope to come across. He doesn't believe me. I would like to prove him wrong so!!! How about a meet at some point during those 4 days we're in CM?? It would be a pleasure to meet with many of you fine chaps and lassies, and we're very open to suggestions
June 19, 201214 yr Where is the best pizza place in CM please UG? Which bar are we meeting up in Alfredo? Where is the shrine to Mr Forbes? As I might wish to pay homage ya never know...

June 19, 201214 yr Where is the best pizza place in CM please UG? The Duke's for American-style pizza. There are a number of decent Italian-style pizza places, but my favorite is probably Da Stephano or La Fontana. Edited June 19, 201214 yr by Ulysses G.

Any other not to be missed places please? Marco's on Loi Kroh for Mediterranean food is quite good. All the places that I recommended are medium priced - not cheap and not expensive. June 19, 201214 yr These two stooges are coming from those southern places. Everything here is cheap cheap.

That kinda happened to me in April too but oh well.........I know a couple of worthy fellows who will up for a few drinks, I was thinking about nominating somewhere central eg Johns Place and letting people know what time we would be there at, and people could just roll along informally. Good thinking??

Look at that they've gone very shy So you thought you could hide from your favorite stalker on this northern forum.Doesn't seem very exiting, you even had to bring your "own" poster. A little like Have a nice holiday. It is a nice city.

Any other not to be missed places please? Well so far it sounds like the only thing you are looking for in Chiang Mai is pizza and drinking. Shame as Chiang Mai has so much to offer. But as you can see there is plenty of opportunity for food and drink. I just heard of a pizza place outside the moat heading from Thai Pai gate just a little ways down past the McDonald's. It as recommended to me by a Thai lady I met in a songtell.
June 20, 201214 yr I was telling him that the CM membership of TV are mostly urbane, witty, informative and interesting people I suspect that theblether is a former used-car salesman.

I was asking in general...not just about food places...more in general things that I might see and do. Thanks. Edited June 20, 201214 yr by smokie36
June 20, 201214 yr How about GJ's at Sansainoi, you will meet some nice, intelligent, witty, people and its not so expensive. How to get there: GJs is off the 121 outer ring road close to the Tesco Lotus located on the corner with the old 1001. If you came from town up the old 1001, take a left at the Tesco/121 junction, go about 250m and it is the second soi on the left (Ban San Khayom Soi 1) just past where the traffic island ends. Go left, down across a crossroads with a temple on your right and it's a few yards further on the left. And before you get on your high horse, it's not my place.

Any other not to be missed places please? Well so far it sounds like the only thing you are looking for in Chiang Mai is pizza and drinking. Pizza and drinking both sound like good criteria! Shame I'm out of town until 1st of August - I'd have been up for a social. Enjoy CM!

In 2012 a crack posting unit was sent to Chaing Mai by George for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security forum to the Thai underground. Today, still wanted by not that many people, they survive as food tasters. If you have a pizza, if no one else wants it, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the B-Team.

There is a possibility that theblether will be back on the 1st, something to do with his Mrs can't get time off work and if theblether thinks she is going to let him gallivant around Thailand without her there will be consequences of a painful type..........

June 22, 201214 yr Author OP. Can you be more specific on the time of your arrival, so we can prepare the red carpet? Smokie will be arriving in at 18.30 hours on Saturday 21st July, I'll be in a few hours earlier. I reckon by the time we get washed and polished it will be going on 9.00. We leave on the early morning flight to BKK/Samui on the 26th, so we are in your hands until then. I want to show Smokie around a bit so anyone that doesn't fancy drinking with us is more than welcome to join us of a day time, we'll need to go to Doi Suthep as it's a criminal offence to be in CM and not go up there, at this point I can hear you groaning " Not Doi Suthep again", the only other daytime place I need to visit is Baan Tawai, that won't take long though, so if anyone fancies lunch any day or some other idea then great
