i needed a safety deposit bank .. so i went to SCB thonglo and they said i needed to have a term (or fixed) deposit account with balance of 100,000 Baht to get a safety deposit box ..

Is this required in all the banks ? any alternatives to keep the valuables safe ..

please suggest ..

I have a SCB account with quite a few bob in it.Unfortunately the Scb in Pattaya has an approximate 4 year waiting list for security boxes, so have been "waitlisted" !!

You dont need to have an account with SCB apparently according to website and boxes are from just a 1000 Baht a year, no doubt hence the popularity.

is that a bank or other type of financial institution?? or just a mail-drop or train station locker-type company?? if the latter I might be a bit hesitant in keeping valuables there.....

Its a private safety deposit box company located on the upper floors of a multi storey in the middle of the jewellery area. They cater mainly for the jewellery trade and have excellent security - far above anything you get at the Thai banks.

Must admit i have no idea of the costs - might be worth giving them a call.
