Im On A 30 Day Stamp And Want To Stay An Additional Month

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I arrived in Thailand on the 27 of May on a 30 day stamp which I would guess expires 26 June. I would like to stay an additional 30 days until the 23-25 of July. I am currently in Chiang Mai. Any suggestions? I am really at a loss when it comes to these things.

No good guessing. The date will be stamped in your Passport. It should be 25th June.

You can go to a Thai Consulate in another country and apply for a Tourist visa. This will give 60 days.

You can leave the country and return by plane to get 30 days.

You can leave and return at a land border and get 15 days. Do this twice to get 30 days.

Thanks LB. Yes it expires the 25th.

Now the question is whether to fly somewhere outside Thailand and return to get an additional 30 day stamp, or drive to Myanmar and apply for a tourist visa. I wonder what would be the most cost effective way to go? Any suggestions?

You cannot drive to Myanamar and get a tourist visa but you can go to Mai Sai and cross the border and come back with a 15 day permission to stay. Most tourist visa runs are to laos or Cambodia.

So I should just be able to drive to Mai Sai twice in 30 days and get (2) 15 day permissions to stay? Sounds easy enough.

Yes you can do that. Just remember that the 15 days is only 14 days because the day you enter counts as day one.

Thanks again for all the info. Has anyone ever driven to Mai Sai from Chiang Mai? I dont have a car so Im wondering if theres a bus or how I can get to Mai Sai without a car. Thanks.

yes there's 3 or 4 buses that leave each morning from the arcade bus station in chiang mai - price approx. 300 baht one way for the best bus,

buses leave at 6, 8 and 9 or something like that but it's best to go the day before a buy a return ticket to be on the safe side.

it's a 4.5 hour bus journey so go for the first class seats at the front of the bus if available.

if you want to go one the 9 am bus that will get to mai sai at approx. 14:00 as i can remember so if your booking a return ticket you need to get say the 15:00 or 15:30 should be ok.

some people go into burma for a few hours shopping etc and other just goto the border and return to thailand straight away - either way you still have to pay the burmese 500 baht or 10$ and tell them what you want to do.

when you arrive at mai sai bus station you need to get a red taxi to the border - 20-30 baht and takes 10 mins.

you could drive but there's no great advantage unless you want to visit some of the attractions in north thailand - will cost you about 800 baht in fuel.
