... and rightfully so after breeding up scum like that. Like father, like son daughter, comes to mind.!

Well, I've got to disagree with you there. Peter Tunks is actually quite a nice guy. I have met him. I was a big Bulldogs fan in 1970's and 1980's ... until Super League screwed everything up and I switched to AFL ... but that's another story.

I don't discount the seriousness of her crime, though. She should be in jail ... but apparently isn't: http://www.dailytele...9-1226406343177

Not entirely disagreeing with you nor wishing to start a blue, It's a bit like me saying that, " I met Bernie Madoff once seemed like a really nice trustworthy guy. " A persons character is simply that of the view of the beholder at the time. By his actions he appears to be jumping to the defence of his offspring with. quote [..........] who has appealed to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra to assist his daughter. This is virtually asking the Aussie taxpayer to foot the bill, instead of getting his arse over here if he is so concerned for his daughters welfare. Peter Tunks, football legend...........

As terrythai just said, [.........]" How would her father like being falsely accused of rape??? "

And thats exactly what I would be doing if was any child of mine.I would have been on the first flight out... Shame the Australian Embassy have to deal with the dregs of society when their presence is probably badly required elsewhere.

They are trying to milk it so they can sell their story to one of the networks or magazines back in Australia.

Even beer mat lady was paid for her story.

Hope it backfires.

This is exactly what I said a few posts back " I feel a book coming on". She actually would be an idiot to try it, because unfortunately for her CCTV gives a totally different story.

If she is hoping to ride on the back of the horror of a recently deceased lady she should think very seriously!

I do notice that Smart Traveller (Australian Government) say the following "This Advice was last issued on Friday, 18 May 2012. It contains new information under Laws (people found making false statements to police may be prosecuted)"

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/advice/Thailand

Seeing that much time was taken up with various Australian officials flying down to see her from BKK I do hope that she is given a very very expensive bill to pay when she reaches home.

I don't really understand why she would want to have a book come out about this ordeal.

It's not anything to be proud of, or known for for the rest of her life.

I'd be very ashamed, blame it on booze or drugs, ask forgiveness, do the time, and quietly go home never to return.

If I was her father, I believe that's exactly what I would recommend also.

Not stirring the pot and act like she's been wronged.

What she did is very bad. Maybe she is not aware of that (yet)

She didn't want her boyfriend to be angry with her because she came back late!!??

So she accuses an innocent person of a crime that they could have been locked away for years, just so the boyfriend wouldn't get angry?

What a completely skewed sense of morality.

yes correct ...she is a real little tart ...her motives were solely to deflect her boyfriends anger at her playing up with both a german kid and a swiss national she could have got people in real trouble ....15 days is a joke i think the thais would have been justified in a custodial sentence more commensurate with the seriousness of the matter ....i wonder what the ex footballer knob of a father would be saying if he had a son banged up on false allegations

I think the appeal might be more to remove a 'criminal conviction' from her record.

Preventing her from all sorts of employment (e.g. schoolteacher or government work in Australis) and foreign travel Visas in future (e.g. to the USA).

Rather than any attempt to get out of a 15 day sentence.

My sentiments entirely. She has eroded the confidence that Larry Cunningham has worked so hard for three years getting the trust the of the Thai Police to take notice of rape complaints and appoint a female officer to conduct interviews and assist where possible.

The poor guy must be shattered being used like this.

She should get a few years in jail for this. The Australian government shouldn't be offering any help. It's funny how so many governments take crimes in their own countries seriously, but then are all to happy to let their own citizen go unpunished for crimes in other countries. Hope all the men that know her keep well away from her.

Although her action is stupid, she can be jailed for lying! Tuk tuk drivers who assaults, beats tourists sometimes nearly death are not. This is justice in LOS!!

That is an exaggeration but typical response to blame the victim because the foreign is always right and much smarter than we backward Thai people. Maybe you should go home where nothing bad ever happens.

What Australian employer, government or not, would be aware of a criminal conviction in Thailand, unless the likes of a Google search is a part of the HR process. If that occurs they will identify her actions with/without a criminal conviction. Most visa restrictions are only applied if the sentence is more than 12 months in prison.

Please do NOT give in to International pressure on this one Thailand. Make her do the 15 days, which I think is very leanient anyway. Letting her off will do more damge to Thailand's reputation (face) than locking her up.

Would you want to work with a woman who falsely claims rape? I wouldn't. The conviction should stand and be known to all those who want to find it out.

...Then PNG the hell out of her...

PNG? What PNG might this be?

Too many possibilities. Can't figure it out.

Papua New Guinea....or....Personna Non Grata...about the same really. Kinda like

whingers & whiners with rich daddies.

But she has already admitted commiting a criminal offence - lying to the police, which is not treated lightly in most countries. What are her the grounds of appeal? 15 days is lenient for wasting police time, making false allegations and apparently she has shown no remorse. After serving the time she should be deported like anyother criminal.

Is her father trying to use influence to get special treatment - hopefully Australia is not that gullible or corrupt. She is not "an innocent abroad" by any stretch of the imagination.

it appears no one has seen the cctv footage.

Maybe she was lying, maybe she wasnt unless I missed something.

Im assuming the police held her for 2 days questioning her?

Is it possible that she was coerced into stating she was lying, and in return they would only give her 15 days, perhaps they scared her into this by threatening that the court may give her ??years in adult prison.

Most on TV agree that the police are corrupt and inept so whats to say the police took advantage of the fear a young girl would have.

Sure if shes guilty she should be punished accordingly but not according to saving tourism.

Just a thought

She had an Australian government representative assisting, so no wasn't coerced into making a false admission.

Thanks for that reply simple1, I cant see how that would make her guilty though, in this country when your up on a charge its better to "confess" in return for a lighter sentence I guess unless you had solid proof of innocence. Im not siding with this girl but am not convinced. Why would it take 2 days for her to "confess" if the police say they had cctv footage of her going to her room, I have not seen any cctv links. The foreign governments here know how things work so perhaps negotiated 15 days to make it look like she is being punished to make it all go away. Just my view

She is now out on bail so has had plenty of time to rescind her plea, perhaps at the Australian Embassy for protection. BTW, why would you be given access to CCTV coverage used by the Royal Thai Police as evidence?

Of course she did not commit this crime, after all she is a foreigner and they never commit crimes.

has anyone seen the cctv footage please?

What of the rape.? There was no rape so no CCTv. sorry. Would have gone viral if there was. Oh dear I misunderstood, you mean of her arriving back by motocy taxi etc; etc: I guess it must exist but being withheld by the police as vital evidence against her. The only party of to whom it is any concern is the girls and her defence team in the current appeal and I'm sure they wont publish it.

As evidence it is seldom paraded in front of the public unless it is felt helpful to solving the crime, such as the Michele Smith case. This case is already solved and sentence passed. It is now under appeal with her football legend father Peter Tunks appealing to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra to assist his daughter. ( possibly at he expense of the aussie taxpayer )

To answer, No I haven't seen any video relative to this case.

[..........] I'm assuming the police held her for 2 days questioning her?

I think incorrect. You will find she was interrogated over a period of 2 days. At that time her story of being violated by 3 men was believed by all, including the Hon. Consul and her boyfriend.

Edit; spelling

However, CCTV footage later revealed SHE (not escorted) had returned to her hotel safely after becoming separated from her Australian boyfriend.

So would I be correct in assuming that everyone is taking the word of the thai police? (the ones that most bash on TV)

No chance that Thai police are trying to preserve tourism?

CCTV footage has not been made available even after she was sentenced?

If I was a judge or lawyer I would be doing more than taking someones word for it before condemning ANYONE

Never take authority as the truth, take the truth as authority.

Having said that, I repeat, I am not siding

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/562808-aussie-woman-jailed-for-false-sexual-assault-report-in-phuket/

"The motorbike driver who took Ms Bamford to her room was questioned by Patong Police.

He explained that he escorted her to her room so she could get money to pay him. While she got the money, he noticed that broken items were scattered around the room."
