I am going to the Thai Embassy in Norway to apply for visa tomorrow or day after. I would like just a tiny bit of advice though.

The real plan is to stay in Thailand for a year+ with my thai girlfriend(26 years). I guess I will have to leave, reenter, leave, reenter, leave......... but that would not be a problem as it would be nice to see other parts of the region as well anyway. I met my girlfriend in Thailand last february and she has stayed three months with me in Norway. The reason this is at all possible for me(32 years) is that I have 2,5 years study leave to go to college and this is done by Internet. This means I will have monthly income(student loan) as well as having money in the bank. The school is in Norway so it does not seem to aid my purpose of stay very much. My girlfriend is also working so we should not have very much trouble of getting by. The reason we want to do it this way is so that we can get to know each other better and not hasten to the wedding any more than a couple would normally do. It will also make ideal conditions for me teaching her better english and she teaching me thai. Being there also means I can get some practice. So for the questions.

I asked the embassy in Norway if it could be possible to get a multiple entry visa but they said, at least on the phone, that the longest they could issue were single entry 60 days tourist visa with the option to extend for 30 days with immigration police in Bangkok.

Is it a bad idea to be honest about my plan to do visa runs by short trips to neighbouring countries when applying for the visa? Should I tell them like it is or make up some song and dance about how I will travel the region constantly. Do they generally disapprove of getting a new tourist visa after short trips abroad many times in a row? Could I suddenly find myself at the thai embassy in Laos or Malaysia and be denied tourist visa for Thailand because I had two or three in a row before?

They indicated that I should speak with immigration in Bangkok when I got to Thailand to see if there could be other options for me. Any ideas?

The most easy would be to be honest and tell the truth, but I just need to know I am not outlining a plan they generally disapprove of. Could I have any chance of getting a non-immigrant visa without my girlfriend and I getting married?

Cheers

I would not see any need to outline your plans to the Embassy as they have already said no so see no advantage. You could find yourself in the situation you describe of not been allowed another visa but it is not likely, and even less likely that you could not use a combination of visa and non visa 30 day entry for a year or so. Things could change tomorrow but as of now you could also probably obtain a multi entry tourist visa from a Consulate such as Penang.

There is no provision for window shopping from immigration.

Whenever talking to goverments or agencys always follow the simple advice: never surrender more info then they demand.

You will most likely only ending up painting yourself into a corner.
