Just a point of imformation for anyone who is interested.

The Queen will unveil a Memorial to all the bomber crews that lost their lives in the 2nd World War in Green Park, London today. There will be a flypast of 5 Tornado GR4's and the Lancaster, the dedication is on BBC from what I can gather and the flypast is due take place at 1200 or just after, the Lancaster is due over the RAF Museum between 1220-1230.

At last. 70 years after the event, and these men had the lowest life expectancy of all. From memory, If you survived 25 bombing missions, you were excused from the rest of the war effort, that's how dangerous the job was. The bravest of the brave. wai.gif

A pity me Da's already passed, he was in on the later-stage decimation of German civilian-populated areas.

Mum was on the receiving end, barely past puberty helping pull the corpses out of the rubble and stacking them dozens high for burning.

Thank the lord most of us here haven't had to be in either position, or at least not to that degree. . .

This is way overdue and should of been built many years ago. Too much nonsence created to stop it by the faint hearted who moan about the likes of Bomber Harris dishing out orders to bomb Dresden etc. Now; they have waited until the majority of the Bomber Crew survivors have passed on before honouring them and their fallen comrades. Typical of the bleeding heart masses of Blighty in these modern times.
