PHUKET: -- Phuket Police are investigating the case of an Australian tourist who claims to have been beaten by a gang of twelve Thai youths today.

Thalang Police were notified at 12:30pm that a foreign tourist was receiving treatment at the Srisoonthorn Public Health Station for a variety of minor lacerations and abrasions to the abdomen, back, right inner forearm and little finger.

The man was brought to the health station by 40-year-old Chaiyut Rasami, who was on his way home by motorcycle and stopped when he noticed the Aussie shirtless and trembling by the side of the road.

The man said he had been beaten by a group of 12 youths. Feeling sorry for him, but doubting that the wounds matched those of a mass beating, Mr Chaiyut lent him a shirt and took him to the nearby Srisoonthorn Health Station.

At the health station, the Australian continued to repeat in a trembling voice a single sentence: that his wounds were inflicted by a gang of 12 youths.

He said little else that staff could understand, but wrote down his name as Peter William, age 47. He was unable to tell workers there where he was staying.

A rescue worker told the Gazette he was seen by police wandering behind Thalang Hospital the night before in what appeared to be an agitated, possibly drug-induced state.

As medical staff at the center treated his wounds, Phuket Tourist Police were called in to investigate his claims.

Hmmmm, 12 Thais? With a few grazes to show for it. Have witnessed a Thai mob in action and I find the lack of injury amazing.

Speedy recovery to him.

The more people beating the less damage you have, because half of the kicks and punches lands on each other

Poor fellow should be checked for mental stability. This is so obviously false it is a shame they've chosen to sensationalise it; causing more harm to Phuket's tourism image.

the phuket tourism image is already gone a long time ago ...with all the scams , road accident , murders etc ...... It will need than an amazing campaign to get the trust of people , many of my customers planing to come in Phuket for X'mas and New year already cancelled their trips. How sad is that ...

I'd be embarrassed to show those 'wounds' to the press and potentially thousands of people.

I hope he isn't wasting police time. 15 days inside seems to be the going punishment.

You are looking at it from the wrong angle. He is working for the police to show the world that all foreigners that report being a victim of crime on Phuket are liars. This will help Phuket's image as all of these recent victims are not to be believed. :) :) :) :)

....looks like a possible 'stroke victim'...

(...suddenly media reports...'seems like he was on drugs'....all the time for foreigners...)

Whatever happened to 'beginning to try to understand each other'...

We are welcome here, initially, with our pockets full of money....

If we die, or are killed, or are poisoned because we seek companionship.....it's our fault ???

(If he had been roaming the streets for 2 nights, it must be something medical)

Is that funny to you??? (Hope it doesn't happen to you...)

Wow Bizzare World Needs help not funny at all

This Guy looks distinctly "not with it", for whatever reason. He looks like he could do with a bit of support, maybe a job for the local Hon Consul of Aussieland, whom I understand does a brilliant job.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I hope you know Larry and are just having a bit of fun with him, otherwise you are a bit off target there if my sarcasm detector is reading that right.

it looks more like scratches from a ladyboy... if this is the beating of 12 youth, than he is very very lucky

Please post your own personal photos of ladyboy scratches so we may use them as reference for this and subsequent such alleged victims.

BTW; stuff on his right side looks kind of like shingles (herpes zoster) The linear wound on the left looks like an abrasion.

Phuket. In February we booked 7 nights in Phuket in August.

The last load of assaults told us loud and clear that under no circumstances is it a safe place for two adults and their 12 year old daughter so last week - we cancelled.

Yes Phuket has beautiful beaches and great scuba diving. We were looking forward to some great golf too. The Thai people are as nice as anywhere.

But it is clear to this little family that the Phuket Police and the local gangsters have "an arrangement."

Tourists are not safe.

When we spoke to our Travel Agent he said there were some problems, but it was not as bad as the papers say it is.

I asked about the Embassy travel advisories. Well it is OK if you stick to the good parts, avoid jet ski and motor boat hire and stay clear of the Bar areas. And what about taxis and tuk tuks? Well you can have some problems with them.

You can keep Phuket now. We have changed to a Samui and Koh Tao mix. The loss of nearly 260 euro in re-arranging our travel is worth the avoidance of such a mafia haven.

47 going on 57 ? Would like to see his passport, his real name would be there as well. How many Mr William do you know ?

Surprised that during this "vicious" attack he managed to count 12 individuals. Unless you are Bruce Lee you don't have time to do this.

Same shit, different Mafia mate. Smaller amount of murders and violent crime, naturally in keeping with a much smaller population, but believe me they do happen, they limit the amount of publicity. Don't rent a motorbike. Oh sorry there's not much alternative, taxis are a rip off. Make sure the speedboat has lifejackets and safety gear, their record is not good. Your daughter should enjoy the full moon party, a good introduction to debauchery for her future life.

Have a nice holiday, check your insurance for any disclaimers, hope you survive OK.

You shouldn't think that just because you've changed locations that the problem you described has gone away, it's just taken on a different profile.

Good luck with golf... And taxis. But the Gulf of Thailand might be safer for diving that time of year than the Andaman Sea. It's monsoon season in August you know?
