I'm citizen of Finland and in some point in future I would like to set up a small hotel in Thailand. I've been reading that I must have 2m Baht to do that but what are the requirements over all? Am I right that I can own only 49% of the company? I'm not sure but are there other possibilities than that and marrying a thai? The other staff would be thai nationality except I and my friend. Does anyone have experience setting up a similar company? What are the chances to succeed?

If this doesn't work, working for some hotel in Thailand wouldn't be bad idea too. So any information regarding working for tourims industry would be great. I have read some information here but haven't yet got into this matter that much. All advice is welcome. Thank you! :o

Then you will need 2 work permits which means your company has to be 4 million baht I believe plus I think you will have to employ 8 Thais (4 for each work permit). To run a small hotel you don't need 8 workers that's for sure. To run a large hotel you need lots of money.

You can have a 49% company but you can have complete control, lots of info about this on thaivisa, just do a search.

Working in a hotel I think would only be feasible if you are a professional working for an international company (Sofitel, Hyatt etc) and they send you to Thailand to be a manager, asst. manager, executive chef etc etc.

Chances to succeed in business are up to you, oyur abilities and the decisions you make. Nobody else can say.

Maybe look at buying a guesthouse, many falangs doing this. Finnish guy named Dan operates Appletree guesthouse in HuaHin, Google it.
