GT200 Bomb Scanner Lawsuit Is Thai Govt's Decision: Prayuth

Of course there will be nobody sued. If so it becomes clear who filled his pockets. Even a toddler would be able to tell that a piece of rubbish like this which does not even contain a holder for the card does not work. Worst of all, they did not opened it, because than the warranty would be void.

The public prosecutor in Thailand should send people responsible for the purchase (Thai military) to jail though for endangering the safety of Thai people and falsely imprisoning suspects as well negligence of duty.

It is not just Thai lives that are endagered!

My Thai family paid 40,000 baht for a piece of plastic that shines a blue LED at water in order to 'purify' it.

I'm not surprised the Thai military bought these 'bomb detectors'.

It's not only the Thai army but also the British army that believed in it. Here is a qoute from Wikipedia "On February 27, 2011 the British government told BBC Newsnight that it had helped Global Technical sell the GT200 around the world between 2001 and 2004. Royal Engineers sales teams demonstrated the devices at arms fairs and the Uk Department of Trade and Industry helped two companies sell the GT200 and similar products in Mexico and the Philippines".

If the manufactorer could fool the British army why couldn't they fool Dr. Pornthip and the Thai army? If the Thai army are considered ignorant because they bought the equipment so are the British army as they helped market it.

One of the stranger aspects of this case was not that moronic Thai generals spent millions of baht on a useless piece of crap. Am sure they skimmed off their standard 30% , and bought a new Mercedes and hired a new mia noi. That is business as usual. The amazing part is that they were able to suck Dr. Pornthip into this farce.

Here is a woman who arguably had the one of the highest reputations for honesty in Thailand. As the news started coming out about how the GT2000 had no actual performance in detecting anything, and the Thai generals saw themselves going down in flames, they brought in the big gun of honesty, Dr. Pornthip, to try and save themselves. Would be fascinating to know what kind of deal they struck with her......Hope she came out well, because her reputation is now in tatters........

I am not so sure the military had to make any deal with her. By reading the wikipedia link provided earlier in this thread (here it is for those that don't want to scroll back http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT200), it appears that the forensic teams have purchased their own devices. This is what it says:

"Pornthip Rojanasunand of the Central Institute of Forensic Science said that although she knew it was 'not scientific equipment', she believed that forensic scientists could still use it effectively: 'We won't buy more, but we won't stop using them either.'"

So they won't buy more, but they won't stop using them. I wonder who in the department authorised the purchase of these devices? Does the Director of the Institute have any say so in the purchases and do they meet with any of the potential vendors?

Anyone who thinks they can use these effectively stands to gain a million dollars. A man named James Randi, AKA The Amazing Randi, has an organization that will give a million dollars to anyone that can pass a scientific test that proves they have a legitimate psychic ability. This includes divining rods which are basically what these devices really are. Here is the wiki on James Randi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Randi.

Unfortunately, you won't find anyone using these devices that can pass this test. You certainly won't find the creators standing in line in order to fail a scientific test. Why? Well they are taking a product that probably costs $5 US and are selling it for $27,000 US. They are making millions and would never risk that for a chance to be proven wrong.

It is interesting that most of the countries that purchased these devices have a reputation for taking bribes. I would be quick to jump on this bandwagon as well, but it is possible that some of these government entities do believe that the device works and the bribes are simply the usual business practice. After all, the divining rod is still in use by many farang countries and sworn as effective by many of these people. Note though, that none of these persons has collected the million from James Randi which clearly shows their true effectiveness. It is also alarming that some of the farang governments appeared to assist with the sale of these items.

The worst part of this are the unnecessary lives that were lost by those that believed the product to work correctly and the possible human rights violations perpetrated on those who were found to have bomb residue based on these devices. Amazing story. Had I written a fiction story about this fifteen years ago, the critics would have all said this tale was just too outlandish and unbelievable to actually happen.

Can someone explain these two statements from Pornthip Rojanasund to me?

" I have never handled the device myself."

" I will continue to use it."

Thainess. You don't understand it.

Why is anyone surprised ?

This is the country that believed that boats moored to bridges on the Chao Phraya River could move water out to sea using their propellers

The power of the pooyai.

This story is sooooooooo much bigger than Thailand and a lot of criticism is misplaced.

Many governments were taken in by technology from a FARANG country.

A lot of the information is only now coming to light. The BBC story is just within the last few days.

I think Thailand deserves a lot of the criticism it gets, and does deserve some for this, but many, many people across several countries were fooled by this company.

I think this is one case where we can go a bit easier on Thailand. They are not the only ones to be fooled. And as this is Thailand, now it's just about saving face. We know how that works. They will say one thing and do another. Read between the lines. They know it's useless. Even if they say they'll still use it (to save face for the amount spent on them) they will probably not. Later on after enough time has passed, they will finally declare them useless and blame the company or England or whoever else. Small steps is how this stuff works here...

Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday said it was up to the government to decide whether to sue the supplier of the GT200 bomb scanners, which have proven unreliable in many scientific tests.

Unreliable!

The machine a bought to convert lead to gold is also some what unreliable. thumbsup.gif

"Conflicting documents

We have read conflicting media reports of the outcome of the latest tests on the GT200 carried out by the Thai government.

You will appreciate that it is difficult to comment on the latest test report until we have seen it and had the opportunity to study it and, in particular, to understand the testing methodology employed. We can say that previous tests carried out by independent bodies, and the experience of the large number of users of this product all over the world, confirms that the GT200 is effective and because of this, we would ask that you treat with caution any reports to the contrary." whistling.gif
