I have lived in quite a few countries, and thus am acccustomed to warranties and guarantees being along the lines of 12 - 24 months or when you leave the store, whichever comes first.

So it was nice - and surprising - to have a local merchant take responsibilty for their products.

Seven months ago, I bought a fair amount of furniture from Chok Chai Home Decor on Sukhumvit, including a swivel chair for my desk. Last week, one of the legs on the star base broke off when I leaned forward in the chair, so I wrote to Chok Chai, asking if they knew where I could get a replacement, thinking I would have to buy it from China and have it shipped in.

They asked for pictures, which I sent, and they almost immediately wrote back accepting responsibility and saying that they would locate a part and replace it, which was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise.

After a week, they said they were having trouble locating a replacement part, so they took a base from a new chair in their store, and had their technician replace the broken one.

Well done, Chok Chai, well done...

Great start to a new topic, lets keep it going with positive and good feedback.

I had a problem with a number of lightning strikes close to the house on the HT lines outside, they blew the computers and printers the CCD cameras and an air con. I called PEA in and they arrived to see the situation on the Monday morning, they said my transformer was not earthed properly to cope with the lightning strikes near by, they said they would be back soon to fix it.

The very next day they arrived around ten and immediately set to work to put in three surge suppressors and giant earth rods five feet in the ground, they were finished by twelve.

I had to pay the full cost of the parts and fitting because it was all inside my wall but very good service from the Electric Supply Company.

Also found Asus to be very good on after sales service too, and they usually give 24months world wide warranty.

In researching my prospective purchase, it has become clear that Apple, Samsung, and Asus currently have very good reputations for post-purchase care, so I am pretty much committed to an Asus or a Samsung.

I bought Acers for myself and for staff for several years based on their reputation, but they have slipped badly in the ratings and I recently had a negative experience with them, so they are off the list.

There was a tuk tuk guy parked outside my office and I used him almost daily to get to the top of the Soi.

One day, I left my phone and he only wanted 1,000Bt to return it.

I bought a second hand car seven years ago in Pattaya and had constant problems, the dealer wouldn't step up to the three month warranty he gave me. So I complained to the police to see if it would make any difference. They met me at the car yard and told the guy to meet his commitments. I was informed by my Thai wife that the police also said to him that if they had another complaint from a foreigner they would close him down as bad for the reputation for Pattaya! It's a true story and not one baht in tea money was asked or given.
