British/Thai Baby To Visit England With British Dad. Passport Questions.....Confused!

Morning all,

looking for some guidance please. Me (British father living and working in Bangkok for 5 years now) and my son (currently 7 months of age, half English, half Thai) want to visit his Grandparents in England for a few days in November.

Questions i have are;

  • Do we apply for a Thai passport or British passport for our son?
  • If Thai, do we need to obtain a visa for his entry to the UK?
  • If British does that mean he will need visas to enter/stay in Thailand on our return?
  • Can he have two passports; British and Thai? Use one to leave Thailand and enter the UK, then the Thai passport to re-enter Thailand?

Anything else anybody can tell me would be great. The information i can find on the internet is extremely confusing and i really would like to get this sorted as soon as possible so that i can book flights.

Thanks for your help and have a great day.

Get both passports - very easy to do and makes travel easier. Depart on Thai passport and use UK passport to prove no visa required at airline desk. Always use UK passport at UK and Thai passport at Thailand. For other countries use what is best for easy entry. Always use same passport for both entry/exit. No problem having both Thai and UK passports.

Is the passport application process the same for a 'half-blood'? I don't have a British birth certificate for the little lad. WIll i need to get one?
