Also I think just a McDonalds is reason enough to put it on the agenda for a visit. For some reason Chiang Mai has lagged behind in McD restaurants for a long long time. Happy to see them pop up as individual restaurants, not just tucked away in a Big C or other supermarket.

Directly across the street from another McDonalds? I can't imagine demand is that high. Is it? Oh wait, Thais have practically doubled in size since I first visited in 1989. Maybe the demand is high.

Oh yes, it's just what this town needs, more shopping malls and more mcdonalds. Fatten up one's desires and fatten up one's bodies. Nice one.

There do exist sane pockets of thailand and the rest of the world where they have done their best to resist the enourmous power and influence that mcd wield.

Unfortunately it seems that power is now overcoming chiang mai. This is a shame for people's health, but great news for the pockets of the company itself and all the pharmacies in town.
