BANGKOK: -- City police yesterday rounded up 41 students at Krungthon Technology School from a crowded bus in front of the Dao Khanong Market in Bangkok's Thon Buri area. A search found 25 students were carrying knives, which they claimed was for self-defence against rival students who often ambushed them.

As the arrests were made as part of measures to prevent student brawls, police fined the 25 students for carrying knives in a public place without a good reason and contacted the school and the parents of 41 students to pick them up at Bukhalo police station.

Police also issued a general warning to parents not to allow their children to ride modified motorbikes or race bikes on city streets, as police now had a policy of arresting suspected street racers before they actually start racing.

The alleged street racers' parents and schools would also be notified and warned to keep their kids in line - or face punishment if kids broke the law.

What role models the current government and the Thai police are for the youth of today.

In conjunction with a dysfunctional education system and the unregulated sewage that appears on TV, there is little hope for the youth of today in this world

Moruya, agreed, we know Thailand was a fuedalist society where the old saying 'do a as i say not as i do' is king. What Thailands older generation is slow to wake up to is that the youth has revised the saying to read 'do as i do not as i say'. So, alas the kids are copying the cops, politicians, TV stars, etc and the authorities keep spouting the same hot air which the kids ignore.

As my old gran usewd to say - actions speak louder than words.

Thailand where are your role models for this generation???

Well at least, it appears, they are throwing some 'the book stops here' back at the parents, for a change. Good move, I say!

So just think of a good reason to carry a knife and you'll be fine.

Dunno whether fruit carving would be a persuasive argument.

It's no wonder they finish school with absolutely no skills or critical thinking. Waste all their time trying to atttack each other. What is it they hope to gain out of hooligan behavior. No purpose, no brains.

Those kids fighting over school pride or whatever, is as pathetic as the gangs back in L.A. fighting for urban ghettos to spray their names on.

They need to play organised Football and have something to have real pride in. Maybe all us Expats could chip in and get a League of all the troubled schools to form teams. Then at the end of the upset games they could have a fight with real purpose. Nah, hopefully all the practice and studies will keep them out of trouble.

Oh believe me, they have 'critical thinking' alright.

It's cognitive thinking that's missing!

No critical thinking = easier to buy votes

Do you really think the Thai Education System™ isn't working? Isn't doing what it was intended to do? The frightening thing is... it is.
