BBC news broadcasts on the Internet, Radio 4 and Radio 5 are not available as they are being broadcast from the Olympic Park. Contracts with the OBC do not allow the BBC to stream the broadcasts outside the UK. Since when did the BBC a state broadcaster funded totally by UK licence payers money roll over to a commercial operation? Insane.

May be slightly missed the point. The BBC has long realised the value of its radio programmes. A very good advertisement for the UK. That is why they have allowed them to be non-regional and fully available on the internet. It has taken the rampant commercialisation of the Olympics to close down its news broadcasts for the next 16 days (and counting). Hence its hash tag on the net as voldesport. The sport that dare not speak its name. Well not unless you cough a load of money.

For all sports events, broadcast rights are neogtiated. Often, there are geographic restrictions on the areas to which the broadcaster can transmit. For example, the BBC does not have radio broadcast rights for the Heneken Cup overseas; they do't have broadcastrights for the Challenge Cup overseas. So these transmissions, which are available to UK IP addresses, are not available to me. Its not a question of 'rolling over'; its a question of abiding by contracts negotiated with the Olympic organisations. If the BBC had felt it commercially sensible*, they could have bought world-wide exclusive rights, and then sold on local broadcast rights to other boradcasters around the world.

The opening Ceremany was Fantastic,extremely Proffessional organised with no glitches,smooth and seamless choreography, and a credit to England,all Brits should be proud of the effort. 3.5 hours of excellent entertainment.

The only person who spoiled the news before the start was, as one of the Brit press called him was Mit the Twit....

But when it comes to the Olympics, they seem to be a world to themselves, it was the same with the Vancouver Games, CTV was impossible to watch anything on line.... (I know CTV is not government funded, although it would have been the same had it been CBC...which is.... .) the only way I found something to see was via an Italian web site if I remember.... mama mia!

The BBC has reached a deal with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the international streaming of some of its radio shows. The IOC is beginning to wilt under the flack of their stupid decisions.

Next will be the Zil lanes in London. With what seems to be 95% of the so called Olympic family not bothering their ass turning up to watch. It is starting to look as if the show is actually so ass numbingly boring that even the IOC cannot bear to watch.

The only reason for Park Lane being turned into an Olympic Family Freeway is so that they can go shopping in the West End.

THe Brits deserve to be congratulated on the opening ceremony.

Rather than a succession of quasi military marching bands and pompous dignitaries, it concentrated on UK achievements, working people and a society that at least TRIES historically to care.

I noticed they even included a couple of bars from "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols

Particularly liked the tribute to the NHS.
