Abhisit explains why he wore red

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva Monday explained he wore a red-shirt to join a rally on Sunday as a symbol that fights for righteousness were beyond political divisiveness.

To the surprise of many people, Abhisit wore a red-shirt to appear on the stage of the Democrat rally at the Thai-Japanese Youth Centre on Sunday.

Abhisit said he wanted to send a message to all Thais, including the red-shirt people, that it was not right to push for enactment of national reconciliation bills.

Abhisit said the red-shirt people feel that they have not received justice in the violent incidents but the reconciliation bills would seek to absolve all people with the main goal to benefit former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He said the issue of reconciliation should be squabbling between people with different political affiliations or different colours. But reconciliation should based on what should be right principles of the countries.

Abhisit said amnesty should be given after screening of people qualified for the amnesty has been done.

Now all we have to do is wait for Jatuporn & Korkaew to show up at a rally in yellow T shirts.

Ya never know.

Jatuporn has been wearing orange, after a few years it may appear washed out yellow

The case for the prosecution, anybody that would wear this would have no shame in ordering the troops in with live ammunition whistling.gif

ok now that we have well truly derailed this Critically Important Breaking News Topic, I think we should let the experts get a few 'telling' points on the importance of this divide and conquer move by the former PM.

Let's compare with your hero, my Dear! If you can stand the blow, of course!

I'm waiting for Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD leader Nattawut to file a defamation and copyright violation charge against k. Abhisit. The affront, Mark wearing our holy martyrs colours. Before you know it he'll be wearing a smiling Yingluck shirt. I shudder at the thought.

I shall believe in reconciliation when I see Jatuporn and Sondhi, Korkeaw and Chamlong wearing pink t-shirts and shorts walking hand in hand singing Tom Robinson's" Glad to be gay".

I have no heroes my friend, I worship nobody and never will. And no doubt you are still of the belief I am a red despite me already explaining why i am not one, and i guess you are saying my hero is Thaksin, well i say feel free with the comparisons, it will not bother me in the slightest but i might counter some of your claims on both sides of the divide,

This simple way of dividing political views, wearing red or yellow for the majority in Thailand was/is, in a very confusing political arena, effective and easy to use. But What was once used strictly as a party political reference has now spilled over, somewhat unwelcomly into everyday life. Abhisit with this clumsy, almost naive 'I'm in touch with you' stance, Which he clearly isnt, again shows why the Majority of Thai's really dont relate to him and, probably never will.

Is this definately a piece from The Nation or Not The Nation???

Abhisit has become a red shirt and is quoted as saying:

He said the issue of reconciliation should be squabbling between people with different political affiliations or different colours.

I think that given the second sentence:

But reconciliation should based on what should be right principles of the countries.

... that there should be a "not" in there to make it "should not be squabbling".

Great Mark. You finally came out of your closet.

Above is good example of taking quotes out of context.

a symbol that fights for righteousness were beyond political divisiveness.

Pardon my Inglish.

I did not have the privilege to go to Eton nor Kwai-ford.

What a country. People are explaining why they are wearing certain colors and wearing the "wrong" color might get you into serious trouble.

Luckily as falang (or farang, up to you) we can just claim DKS (don't know sh*t) and wear whatever color shirt we want !

And the above is an example of not appreciating the need to match singular and plural.

"a symbol that fights for righteousness was beyond political divisiveness."

If you are going to nitpick, then please get it right. thumbsup.gif

In any case, the gesture was empty.

Oh GK what nonsense. The omission of the end of the quote completely changed the meaning so he was hardly nit-picking.

Also, the mistake was not Whybother's, but in the quote from the OP. I suspect that the mistake was not Mark's either, if we bear in mind his educational pedigree. smile.png

Not arguing with whether it was an empty gesture, however.

I wear red when united plays so what. Sick and tired of having to get up in the morning, look at my calendar and then decide what colour shirt is "ok". Time for us to start a protest demanding the right to wear whatever <deleted> colour shirt we want without it implying that we give a toss about local politics. I am mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore. Who is with me?

On a more serious note, I would be more worried if Mark showed up in Red and White stripes than red alone. (see sunderland for a hint).

''I am mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore. Who is with me?''

not me man, if I wear yellow I upset my little lady, and I ain't doing that, If I wear red I upset my friend of 18yrs who lets me have Chang at supermarket prices in his bar!
