Numerical Classifier For Ice Cream Cones

May I have 1 ice cream cone.

ขอไอศกรีมโคน 1 อันครับ

Asked a Thai person and I was told the numerical classifier for ice cream cones is อัน and I would like confirmation on this. I overheard a Thai person ordering 2 ice cream cones and they said ไอศกรีม 2 โคน. (It appears as though they used โคน as the classifier). When I listen to my sentence, if I use โคน for the classifer, it just doesn't sound natural.

ขอไอศกรีมโคน 1 โคนครับ (sounds strange hearing โคน repeated twice) (It might not sound so bad if I said ขอไอศกรีม 1 โคนครับ. However, I can't find the numerical classifier for cones, so I am not sure what is correct.

I am just curious about the classifier. Honestly, you can just say โคน and it is quite obvious you want an ice cream cone and if you are one person, it is assumed you just want to buy one.

Also, would the classifer be the same for "traffic cones". Example, "The police officer moved 2 traffic cones to allow for guest speaker to leave the venue and avoid the paparazzi".

Traffic cones are not small items like ice cream cones, so using อัน would seem incorrect.

To Thais, the most natural way to say that would be ขอไอศกรีม 3 โคน if they also sell it in bowl that would be ขอไอศกรีม 3 ถ้วย just like when you say ขอข้าว 3 จาน or ขอน้ำ 3 แก้ว.

Since cone is considered as a container of ice cream.

The most common classifiers for both the ice cream cone and traffic cone is "un".

ไอศกรีมสามอัน - three ice creams

กรวยสีสมเจ็ดอัน - seven orange traffic cones (or witch's hats if you are Australian )

Also be aware that โคน (cone) is a borrowed word, the Thai word for cone (although I have never heard it used for ice creams) is กรวย (gruay).

The clasifier is pronounced Gon....it is used for stones , your testicles anything in lump form. They are refering to the icecream...not the cone.

Yes that's what I thought. Although I've never eat ice cream it makes sense that the classifier is gawn.

So I can see how to order two scoops of ice cream or two cones. Would the connector for two cones with two scoops each just be gap or can each be emphasized? Two cones with two scoops (each). Or maybe it should be two scoops as a cone two of them? Ie song gawn bpen cone song an?
