Heroin, Ice Network Smashed In $500M Drug Bust

Federal Police say they have smashed a $500 million Hong Kong-based drug ring which was smuggling half a tonne of heroin and ice into Australia.

Overnight police arrested four men from Hong Kong at an apartment in central Sydney, and three Australian residents, also Hong Kong nationals, in Sydney's west.

The drugs - 306 kilograms of ice and 252 kilograms of heroin - were found hidden in 100 terracotta pots inside shipping containers during a raid at Port Botany nearly two weeks ago.

The containers had been shipped to Australia from Thailand.

That will improve the profit of the other drug dealer.....

That kind of politics only make drug dealing a better business.

If the bust had been in Thailand all the suspects would have been ̶e̶̶x̶̶e̶̶c̶̶u̶̶t̶̶e̶̶d̶ killed after a police shootout. BiB take note please.

i suspect smashed is a bit strong, though perhaps a dent was made.

This poison was shipped from Thailand, it would be interesting to know where it originated.

Oh BIB do you see how a media release is done, you do not have the entire police force and customs standing behind the drugs grinning like a cheshire cat. A designated spokesperson conducts the media release in this case the head of the AFP and the head of customs and they do not need the support of everyone to stand behind them. Conducted is a calm proffessional many.

So are you suggesting that they let it on to the streets to keep the prices down. Maybe it is cheaper to simply collect the corpes from the streets than to conduct and operation like this. Lives have been saved here.

Shouldnt this be in Thai News Section?

nah that would look bad for the DSI, they were busting a guy with a dildo and blowup doll whilst this stuff was being shipped from Thailand.

Quite a bit of #4

Is there much heroin on the streets in Thailand? I haven't noticed any large scale heroin busts in the media

That's the problem with trans national crime.

Those who control the drug trade in Thailand can't dictate ghe actions (or inanaction) of the police in those nasty un controllable states they are shipping their drugs to/through.

I have the feeling Thailand knew nothing about this and they were kept completely out of the loop on this one. 1/2 tonne of herion and amphets was probably to big a risk to inform the corrupt BIB about and have the whole operation go completely pearshaped.

Australian Police say they have been watching the syndicate for nearly a year following a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Agency.

No...But this way simply didn't work the last 100 years. How about everyone who is already addicted get his narcotics for free (or extreme cheap) at the pharmacy or at the Doctor.

Than the profit in selling drugs would be immediately zero.

Than no one would ship the drugs anymore.

That the big drug dealer and politics go hand in hand and are often the same people is well known and not only in Thailand.
