I have a new (replacement) passport and have never had any tourist visa before. I am currently stamped into Thailand until 15th Sept 2012.

Living in Pattaya.

I would like to get a double entry Tourist Visa to keep me here for another 6 months.

Where would be the best place and easiest place to go for a double entry tourist visa?

How long would I have to stay there to get the visa?

What paperwork is required?

How much does a double entry tourist visa cost?

Would I be better off using an agency or doing it myself?

A tourist visa is 1,000 baht per entry. So a double entry costs 2,000 baht.

That is a lot less than I was expecting if I am honest which is why I wanted to double check. Seems like I might as well make a holiday of it

If you want to make a holiday of it do it yourself for sure but using an agency you will pay about the same or might even save some cash.
