Piak Bowie is an excellent recommendation. You could also check the road along the north side of the moat (on the outside). There are a few shops that carry army surplus type stuff & at least one of them has some good quality blades - Cold Steel & the like.

The Saturday morning market at Sanpatong.

Millions up for sale in there, all qualities, all prices.

Market opens aroud 6.00am, stalls begin packing up at about 11.00am.

As for catching bar girls, why not do as I do, and use a big net? Just throw a 1000 baht note inside and the girls just jump into the net.

Is that the Saturday second hand market, or a different one?

I have a net. The knife is to skin them once they are caught. You haven't lived until you've had a nice par of bar girl skin boots and a matching wallet. laugh.png

A different one.

Travel along the Hang Dong Road towards Hang Dong.

Go through Hang Dong and right on into Sanpatong High Street.

Keep going, passed the High Street and about 2 miles further you will hit the market. Can`t miss it, it`s huge and there are hundreds of people milling about.

The stalls are both sides of the Hang Dong Road. Go into the right hand side part. Walk through all the stalls and in the centre and at the end you will find many stalls that sell the hunting knives.

It a wonderful market, they sell virtually everything and even livestock and if you`re lucky, you may even find a bargirl trap up for sale.

Excellent info, thank you. About what time does it start closing up, or does it go all day?

For local custom made knives Piak Bowie is very good. They made two knives for me; a leather crafting skiving knife and a small bushcraft blade, both of which take and hold an excellent edge. They made these to my designs and were pretty quick about it.

The Mil/Supply stores on the north side of the moat do carry several brands of good knives, i.e. 'Benchmade,' etc., but you need to be able to know the difference between the real deal and knockoffs. LOTS of fake 'quality' knives being sold these days and at first glance look pretty good. It's not until you put them on a stone and watch the metal disappear that you realize...

There are a couple of good custom knife makers here in Thailand if you are in that league. I can't remember if Piak Bowie is one of the ones i am aware of. I haven't the web sites with me at the moment but maybe you can google for them or if you can wait and PM me i will see if i can find them when i get back onto my main computer . Some of them exhibit in the Knife shows in the States and do stuff in damascus etc.

Are you looking for a skinning knife--something with a comfortable, non-slip handle and a short, sharp, sturdy blade that holds a good edge? Or a big, flashy, knife that looks impressive but has little practical use? Just curious.

I have a Bark River Liten bror in CPM 3V steel that I will sell for $150. It is more of a bushcraft knife. Imported from America.

They are over $200 new plus shipping.

Here are some photo and an excellent review:
