Pattaya joins Thailand in celebrating Mother’s Day

PATTAYA:--The 12th August is Mothers Day here in Thailand, where the entire Kingdom celebrates the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirigit’s 80th birthday.

As part of the formal celebrations for this event, in the grounds of Banglamung City Hall, Khun Chawalit, the Chief of Banglamung District led an early morning ceremony which was attended by eighty Buddhist Monks who began with a short religious ceremony. All this in front of a 5 meter high portrait of Her Majesty.

On Sunday evening a parade took place at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach and finished up at the Bali Hai Port at the South end of Pattaya Beach. This parade takes place every year and began the evening’s celebrations with over 1,000 participants including Police volunteers, civil volunteers and members of the public who were dressed in the Queen’s official colour of light blue.

The parade led followers to the Bali Hai Port where a stage, overlooked by a portrait of Her Majesty had been erected. Traditional Thai dancing displays and other stage entertainment had been organized and just before 8pm in a ceremony which was repeated around Thailand,
