Good evening all. First time poster here so please forgive me if this question has been asked before. I have tried searching the internet but there seems to be mainly information about partner visas. My maternal grandmother has just received a one year visitor visa to Australia with no 8530 condition imposed. Both of my parents are Thai but have PR's and have been living in Australia for 10 years. My mother is an only child and her father passed away a couple of years ago. We would like to apply for an onshore remaining relative visa for my grandmother but would like to know how soon we need to apply for this visa once she arrives in Australia? Do we have time for her to settle in first and take full advantage of the visitor visa since I assume she is ok to stay for the whole year or should we try for the substantial visa straightaway?

Khun Electau you may have misread my post as I was asking for the recommended visa submission timeframe not the type of visa to apply for.

You should contact DIAC in the first instance, they can give you the timeframe for processing, and the correct class and subclass of visa to apply for.
