Broken-hearted mute man threatens suicide at Big C Rajadamri

BANGKOK: -- A lovesick mute man caused a commotion on Bangkok’s Rajadamri Road on Saturday by sitting on the roof of the Big C Supercenter and threatening to throw himself off.

As Withawas Somkhane, 23, sat with his legs dangling off the building, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was across the road on the plaza in front of Central World department store – causing extra headaches for police.

The premier was in the area to open the “Joining Forces Against Corruption” festival.

Around 10:30am, one of Yingluck’s security staff alerted police to Withawas’s presence.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the would-be suicide with police setting up a safety cushion on the ground below.

Officers quickly realized Withawas was mute and they would have to communicate with him using written messages.

Withawas passed them a note that read: “My name is Kim. I love Nong Mai so much. Now I feel devastated and I will love Nong Mai forever.”

Withawas refused to move for more than one hour until he sent another message asking police for some water.

Lt Col Phairat Yano of Lumphini Police Station passed a bottle of water to Withawas and seized the chance to grab the young man and pull him to safety.

Having read the full article I feel that this is a sad story for poor Nong Mai. The poor lass has told the boy how she felt, knowing it would break his heart, then he pulls this stunt. It was "stay with me against your will or have my death on your conscience." Poor girl, damned if you do, damned if you don't. The EXACT reason she, clearly, gave him for their break-up.

Whatever part of this mans past caused him to behave like this is obviously sad for him, but now it will affect this girl. Worse than all this it has made national media. We'll probably see her up on the roof of BigC very soon.

Oh poor girl, poor girl....why did she decide to go out with him in the first place? This is what eventually happened..

You never, never mess with another person's heart. Got it?! You don't have the freewill to do that. These kind of people should no longer be allowed to have any partnered-relationship again.

It's lucky he didn't jump, because all the usual sad posters on here would be claiming it was a murder that was covered up and treated as a suicide.

I did the same thing just because the picture posted was a view looking toward the top of the building. If there isn't any important reason to do otherwise, maybe Big C should think about locking the door to the roof.

I did the same thing just because the picture posted was a view looking toward the top of the building. If there isn't any important reason to do otherwise, maybe Big C should think about locking the door to the roof.

He was probably at a desk writing notes to the cops when that pic was taken.
