Does anyone know the date this year in Mae Jo for the big lantern launch. My folks are coming to visit from October to about the 2nd November. Will we get to take them? If memory serves, it's in October usually isn't it?

Thanks

The main festival for locals is free and not widely advertised.

Usually on a Saturday, one week or two weeks before Loy Gratong.

The pay event is advertised as it's a huge amount but much smaller than the free event.

Looks like the 24th October is the real one (but that's a lot later than normal).

A ThaiVisa postings are like that old children's game telephone. It starts out with a question -then someone will answer- then someone will remark

on that answer and will quote or add erroneous information- from that point on it becomes almost useless as everyone follows the misinformation

NOTE: Tommo supposedly goes to the weblink and brings back the info that it will be October 24th- " that's a lot later than normal"

THE EVENT IS ALMOST ALWAYS IN NOVMBER AND IT IS NOVEMBER 24th THIS YEAR-

Of course you are right, I mistyped October but meant November, old age comes to everyone, let's hope it's kind to you L&J.

As I was saying the 'fake' tourist event is usually on the Saturday 1 week before Yee Peng, and the 'real' event 2 weeks before Yee Peng.

Looking at the relative dates advertised, and knowing the games they play with their advertising, the 24th still seems too late in the month .............. hard to say until nearer the date, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 'real' event wasn't on the 17th November

as the website i previously posted says:

However, the annual festival of Tudongkhasathan Lanna will be held on the 24th Nov 2012

this is the free event as far as i can determine. The monks who host that site are running both the free and paid events
