The Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) released a report on Thursday that documents 20 cases of forced labor in Chin State since January 2011. According to the report, the Burmese army and local authorities were each responsible for half of the incidents, some of which involved several villages. The International Labor Organization held a workshop in the state capital of Hakha in May 2011 to raise awareness of the issue of forced labor, but at least 12 cases recorded in the CHRO report occurred since then. Most cases involved construction work and forced planting of jatropha.
