Cicada Caller

Featured Replies

This thing hit the screen door tonight and all the jinjoks went running in the other direction! Such a lovely bug, at least when they are quiet.

My God ! What Is It ? It is bigger than a finch.

It would have been eaten by now for sure, did they cook it?

How were the taste testing reports?

These babies are all over Tokyo for about 6-8 weeks each summer singing their loud song from morning to afternoon and they only stop for rain or darkness. One of the little monsters hit me while I was on my bicycle last week or so. Scared the crap out of me. unsure.png

As something of a rite of passage, many small kids catch them with nets and I guess keep them at home for a bit until they expire.

Oh, I found a dead one on the steps...

I could not find my tape measure so I used something many should be familiar with.

They are harmless. Just noisy as heck.

Strange that we don't get them here, never seen one or heard Cicadas, have them in OZ, but here in the Emerald Triangle not.

Have flying beetles the size of tennis balls, scorpions that take out big dogs, but no Cicadas. Jim

Noisy, harmless, but creepy looking! I still have problems handling them but my usually squeamish better half has been playing with them since she was a kid. Those feet can really hold on.
