Parking A Car In Hua Hin

UKJASE

Recommended Posts

hey guys, wondered if you could help me understand how to decipher the parking rules in Hua Hin.....

we often get the mini van to bangkok, and so leave the car in the centre of town for a few days near to the mini van office..... there is a garage in town that has a big forecourt, and have often chanced leaving the car here, and so far it has been safe, and never ticketed

last week we went to bangkok, and our normal spot at the garage was taken, so i left the car on soi 55, just off petchkasem..... i was in a rush so didnt take much time parking and looking for signs etc..... upon return a few days later, the car wasnt there

i did then see there were signs along the road saying parking on one side on even dates, and on the opposite side on odd dates, and then we found out the car had been towed to a compound up the pala-u road...... the kind policeman gave me a ride on the back of his honda goldwing type bike (occasionally with the lights flashing), and kindly took my 1500B from me in exchange for my car

so the other day, the mrs told me to make sure the parking was good for our trip to bangkok....... i went down soi 55 off the petchkasem, and then took the first left..... now if you know this road, it is very big, and quiet, and has plenty of parking....... i looked carefully for signs on both sides, and there were none i could see....... there was lots of cars parked on either side, so i parked here

a few days later and got back and we had a ticket for 400B..... my wife paid the ticket, and was told it should have been 800B really as we had broken two parking rules...... 1 - we were facing the wrong way against the flow of traffic (!!) and 2 - parking is again on opposite sides of the road only on alternate days

now i am sure there was no signs, but there may have been some symbols or something that i am not aware of to warn people

so my question is, where can you park in town for a few days at a time, and be sure the car wont be getting a ticket? the policeman said on the black & white lines was ok for a few days, but my wife said not outside shops as the shopkeepers wont be happy

and on the side roads off petchkasem, how can you tell if you are allowed to park for an extended period? anyone good on the rules (if they have any), and know how to avoid parking fines? or does anyone know any good spots near the clock tower area, where someone can park for a few days?

What about the temple car park. the one near Starbucks. That's where i park when coming to Hua hin. 20 baht a day.

Agree. Just remember that it closes 10.30PM, good for security but impractical if coming to HH late. If you are leaving the car for a couple of days, ask the staff where to park it, in case they have a big funeral coming up. Best place to park with no headache in the center of HH. No minivans in Venice? whistling.gif

Yes, as others have said, I use the Temple car park all the time. I've never left the car there overnight though, but find the (20b per day) parking attendant and let him/her know what you are doing and it should be ok. It's the safest place as it closes between 10:30 p.m. and dawn.

Temple car park it is by a unanimous decision.... cheers guys..... wai.gif

for future reference, and for when visiting other areas, does anyone know about the parking laws here?

i have found out you can not park against the flow of traffic (a bit of a mad rule, seeing as though almost every other driving manouver / technique seems to be allowed), plus i know black & white markings on the kerb are good, red & white are a no no..... what about yellow and white??

also, if parking is resticted on a street, are the parking regs for that street always to be found on a sign somewhere on the street.... as i am sure i couldnt see a sign when i parked, yet rules applied according to the policeman......

It's the same rule in the UK.

Offer the petrol station some money for parking.

Yellow and white is a loading zone (as I understand it). Ok for a quick pick-up but not long term. I'm not sure what the time limit is but I only use them if I'm picking someone up or if I'm staying in the car while the missus runs in a shop to grab an item quickly.

Those areas that have alternate side parking on alternating days usually have a sign, but only in Thai. I just look at the other cars and park on the side where the most are, but then the only road where I park that is like that is Chomsin road between Phetkasem and Nebkahardt roads.

More important than the streetmarkings is local 'parkingconduct" rules. Do not park in front of anyones business, streetmarking or not, for any longer period of time (business here means even streetvendors). Break that rule, and you will more than likely end up with a few scratches on your car. And do NOT even think about parking, where the Thai houseowners have marked "their territory" with plastic chairs in the street. Result = as above. Not even the Bangkokians on the busy weekends would dream of even try to break that rule. Funny thing is, that many of the plasticchair houseowners don't even have a car whistling.gif

Jeeze this guy is something else.

How inconsiderate, selfish and ignorant to park your car on someone else's property without their permission, loss of business to the owner and hinderance to a customer that wants to do business but cant because some <deleted> has used parking space for 3 days.

Love to see this jokers reaction if he got up one morning to find someone had left a vehicle in his driveway for 3 days without his knowledge, he would go balistic.

Everyone knows you cant park agianst the traffic, only 2 streets use the alternative side parking system, everyone knows that also.

He has a car so why not drive to BKK? Oh yes it will save 200 baht in fuel if he uses the minibus, Jeeze is he living or surviving? Too many Foriegners here that should not be here. clap2.gif

I find it hard to believe that you choose to ride in a kamikaze mini-van rather than risk getting lost, stuck in traffic or the hassle of finding parking.

Just park it on a Garage Forecourt for 3 days without permission, leave it ilegally on the side of the road for 3 days.

Save 200 baht on petrol/diesel cause you are bloody tight shiela. laugh.pnggiggle.giflaugh.png

I have to agree with the above BazilFox. My Grandma used to say "If you have nothing constructive to say, it's better to keep quiet".

I agree with your grandmother. But what should posters like Bazilcock (or whatever) do with their pathetic lives? It is bad enough he has to spend of his time drinking outside 7/11 with his likeminded friends, and now you are asking him to be constructive (goggle it Bazil) in his posting. Give the poor guy a break HHF, first he has to fight to get his belly behind the keyboard in the 10bath/hour internetcafe and now you want him to be constructive as well. ermm.gif

But actually there was at least one intelligent line in his post "to many foreigners here, that should not be here". At least the rest of us know the name of one of those foreigners!! (bazilcock)

What should postee's like Soi41dickhead do with their pathetic live's? its bad enough he has to spend time drinking outside Tesco Lotus Express to save money with whoever will sit with this narrow minded plonker. Tell me what is constructive about this post, what a hypocrit.

Bet Soi 41 would go balistic if someone parked inside his rundown accomadation without his knowledge for 3 days.

I agree, totally ignorant and selfish, the only Garage Forecourt opposite the MiniBus office is Tesco Lotus Express by the Traffic Light's. Note the <deleted> calls it "last week we went to bangkok, and our normal spot at the garage was taken" so quite regularly he has pissed people off.

hey, will everyone please stop calling me a "<deleted>"... all i am doing is trying to park my car..... the forecourt area at Esso / Tesco is very large, and there are no notices that i am aware of that say i cant park there..... there are some marked car parking spaces at the back of the forecourt, and me, along with many other people, park cars there......

surely a big white box marked on the concrete, with no signs stating otherwise, signals an invitation to park.....

i was simply hoping for a bit of advice, a sharing of experinces, and other bits of general forum activity

baz and angritgent need to lighten up......

Oh I see, Mr BC has got himself a lawyer, judging by the level of his post probably living in the same trailerpark as the OP. As for my rundown accomadation, does Naebkehard mean something to you? No I didn't think so, as it is a long way from the ghetto in Bon Gai. I am sure I could squeze in your second hand Honda Jazz with my 4 other cars. No problem.

Sorry UKJASE, this got a little off track.sorry.gif

I think that's a large assumption. I agree the painted white box likely signifies a parking spot but parking to do business at that location and longer-term storage are not the same. The forecourt may well be private property so if they towed you away I think they would hold pretty well all the cards.

Personally I wouldn't assume I could leave my car in such a spot longer than a few hours.

Just realised this judgemental <deleted> who has nothing to say about the subject matter but lies about another member, yes lies, bet he has never seen "Bazilfox" so how does he know what he looks like and where he drinks, more importantly he rambles on about the use of a 10 baht intrernet. I dont see the relevance in metioning this, whether its a 10/20 or 1baht a minute internet evryone on Thai Visa has used them. So whats the significance in mentioning it?????

Soi41 just cant handle opinion, everyone has a right to an opinion and its that which should be discussed.

Still say that anyone who wakes up to find a Car Parked in his drive without his permission will go ape, including this self opiniated plonker.

At least you now admit to parking on someone's business premises without permission, before you lied. Perhaps we are getting somewhere now.

Parking on this establishment and any other business establishment is for customers so they can use the business, its not for free loaders.

If you still disagree then why not Park under the Hilton when in Town, he he he.

What a fantastic thread - properly laughing here.... BazilCock... Soi41Dickehad.... and then..... "hey, will everyone please stop calling me a "<deleted>"... all i am doing is trying to park my car....."

I am sort of curious why you see it as easier to get the minivan though? I mean if you simply "like" the van than fair enough but mate do you not find them a bit packed and uncomfortable? I always struggle with them to be honest.

Why dont you just buy a sat nav for driving into Bangkok? You can pick them up for a few grand now and you will have no issues getting lost. I always drive into BKK and get there a little quicker than the minivans, and you can go at your own pace, have a laugh with the mrs in the car, stop for a smoke/coffee or whatever. You will be a few hundred baht down at the end of the day but a much better idea, in my opinion.

Just my opinion though. If you just like the bus, nothing wrong with that.

What about parking at the fishing pier? Or maybe the collonade shopping mall? 24 hour security, no one there gives a flying bugger and the place never gets busy enough that it is even half full.
