webfact
Panel delays decision on land documents WATTANA KHAMCHU THE NATION BANGKOK: -- The Interior Ministry's committee in charge of revoking documents on land plots related to the Alpine Golf Club has decided to postpone the action, saying it needed time to study relevant laws first, a source said yesterday. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) recently urged the ministry to revoke illegally issued documents and take disciplinary action against Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, who was involved in the case in 2002 and whose penalty could be expulsion from the Cabinet. Yongyuth was deputy permanent secretary of the ministry at the time. However, according to a ministry source, members of the committee were not certain whether the current permanent secretary had the mandate to overwrite its predecessor's decision and what the process might be. In June, the NACC said Yongyuth, acting on behalf of the permanent secretary, had certified as legal the sale of 732 rai by a foundation representing Wat Thammikaram to the Alpine Real-Estate Co and Alpine Golf & Sports Club. He gave it his stamp despite the fact that the land was owned by a monastery and could not be sold or transferred. It has been reported that Yongyuth will use a law on exoneration so he can hang on to his ministerial post. However, upon studying the law, The Nation found that it would not be applicable because its conditions are that the wrongdoer needs to have served all penalties for criminal cases and should have at least partially served the penalties before the law went into effect. A person who has been dismissed from government service or a state enterprise is prohibited from becoming an MP or a minister. The latest Exoneration Act was issued in 2007, and allows people convicted of crime or disciplinary violation some leniency if they have never committed the crime before. -- The Nation 2012-09-
Popular Post asiawatcher
Another great example of the lawlessness of Thailand when it comes to P.i.P. - "people in parliament". And how much cash did Yongyuth receive for the stroke of the pen as 'acting' permanent secretary? What is the point of having the NACC when it makes a 'recommendation', which is ignored. Why can't it arrest and prosecute or is this just another smoke screen and a Hollywood set - trying to cover up the fact P.i.P. can do what they like but tot the rest of the world Thailand touts having a 'force' looking into corruption? Pathetic, really pathetic.

Buchholz
The Interior Ministry's committee in charge of revoking documents on land plots related to the Alpine Golf Club has decided to postpone the action Would the Interior Minister have anything to do with his committee's decision??? Interior Minister Yongyuth saying it needed time to study relevant laws first Perfectly understandable, given that it's only been 10 years since the law was broken. . Ricardo
saying it needed time to study relevant laws first. Heavens forbid, that the poo-yais of an Interior Ministry committee, should actually know anything about the laws they administer, before they're appointed, it would go against all tradition !

virtualtraveller
Absolutely pathetic, all we've seen since this govt came to power is attempts to squash the endless line of corruption charges, investigations and verdicts against its members, it's what they are all about, will any of these cases ever serve justice, and why are so many of them fingering people that we've all voted to run our country!!!
tomross46
Is the Alpine Golf Club, presently owned by the Shintawatra Group, SC Assets? The Interior Ministry was told many years ago that this land should be returned to the temple.

Baerboxer
Just a small delay while every law is scruitinsed to see if some 'weasely words" can be found that might be used as a get out. If not, revert back to "a little white lie". The monks wouldn't want a golf course anyway and that nice Shniwattra company does so much good for the country and community. siampolee
Do we really think that the matter is going to be dealt with in an ethical fashion ?, All the people involved have their tentacles in this present maladministration both overtly and covertly and of course there is a big old pot of money involved which they are all salivating and drooling over. No chance of the matter being cleared up the powers that be have been told no doubt by their fugitive from justice leader to procrastinate ad infinitum. So interesting to note that the pack that scream and shout about Abihisit are absent from this theed one wonders why. perhaps it's a case of the truth hurts

marshbags
it is disgraceful but nothing to do with politics - it's just 'Thailand' money number ONE You are partly correct re money being Number one BJ but I tend to think.... It has everything to do with politics, hows about political interference for starters and the vested interests of the Shinawatra who happen to be dictating anything and everything the P.Thai government do... This includes all the governmental depts. not least of all the Interior Ministeries committee. The land was donated to the temple and to part quote a line from the OP,s news article " the fact that the land was owned by a monastery and could not be sold or transferred " It still belongs to the monastery and must be returned in accordance with Thai Law. This government which again incidently happens to be under the control of the owner / s of the golf club and the donated land it was built on wiil make sure it keeps getting posponed and put back until they can / are able to manipulate whatever laws are needed to prevent it from being handed back. Just like old times when Thaksin was in charge pre coup days Hopefully both him and his coherts will finish up with a similar outcome as before, not only on this particular misuse of office and power but many others, not least of all several on hold eagerly awaiting his return from self inflicted exile. Going on the ages of some of those involved they will probably expire in the not to distant future. marshbags Edited September 8, 2012 by marshbags

Why wouldn't the monks want a golf course? Surely the golfing brothers would be a tourist attraction. If Monty Python could have leaping nuns why can't the monks play golf? An added attraction would be real pythons let loose on the course.

The golf course is now owned by Thaksin Shinawatra’s children. No doubt about who is the de facto owner. http://blog.nationmu...nt.php?id=15288 Edited September 8, 2012 by Buchholz

Remember what he said after the Government seized 46 Billion Baht in lieu of unpaid taxes "If they can do this to me, they could do it to anyone".... Anyone who happened to change the laws to evade paying taxes that is! If I was on the NACC, I would check to make sure that the fire insurance was paid up.
