BOBBYTIN
has anyone any idea how the customs and excise work out the cost of importing goods. i am planning to bring in a complete catering trailer, built to european standards. it of course will have all the fixtures and fittings installed,i know i have to tax and insure it,but ,as usual, finding any the real charges is impossible. any one ever dealt with customs and any one any input that may be useful. it is 18ft long and full loaded. any advice would be gratefully received. petercallen
Why not have one made and fitted out here it would have to cost a lot less Any motor body manufacturer would be able to do it to your specifications

Stanley Jerd
Get a customs broker with insurance for something like that, and insist on using fedex, some items are restricted in import because they are required by law to be made here. ggold
Importing a vehicle to thailand has about 100% import duty, if I'm not mistaken! Sorry realize its a trailer, depends if a trailer is concidered a vehicle? steelepulse
There is a coffee catering truck quite often parked at Nai Harn in the parking lot. It might be worth your time to speak to him about where and how he got his catering truck made. He's there daily during high season, but hit and miss low season. Totally agree. i have 4 freezers.2 Sanyo and 2 Sanden. One of the Sanyo's packed up after 2.months.After an endless stream of so called engineers who had not a clue what they were doing came and went still not working so they reluctantly replaced it. So I thought I would try Sanden.Bad mistake. One is 18 months old and the thermostat packed up so I called endless so called engineers .One finally turned up.I told him it was the thermostat but he still had to mess with it broke the plastic holding the switch in place because he could put back right so he forced it.He then told me the thermostat had broken charged me 300 bht for eff all and said he would order one cost 1500 bht. four weeks later i was still waiting so I finally called into Keehin to see if they could order one.Yes no problem.400 bht. now the other sanden only 10 months old has packed up but I now have to wait for an engineer to come down from Bangkok to fix as sanden do not have a service center in Phuket.I think I am just jinxed when it comes to freezers. Oh and the sanden freezers are going rusty already. So agree with OP get it made outside of this she will right be country

I bought a stainless steel stockpot in australia which was manufactured in India and it rusted So it depends where the stainless steel is made I have never seen a caravan type catering trailer here but they manufacture plenty of truck bodies and it could be cheaper to have a truck mounted catering unit than buying a imported towable one and fit it out with imported appliances Edited September 11, 2012 by petercallen
