Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

A Canadian friend of mine is thinking of retiring here on a retirement visa. He doesn't have enough pension to qualify but will be able to deposit the required 800K in the bank.

He is 62 but he is wondering about the status of his 46 year old Phlippina wife. How can she stay with him other than get endless tourist visas.

Any info appreciated.

Once he has his 12 month extension, she can get the same as his dependent.

She will not need any money in the bank.

Once he has the retirement extension of stay she can visit a nearby Thai Consulate to obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa with copy of his passport/extension and marriage proof. Then she can extend to match him and do each year thereafter as his dependent wife.

They should start with applying for a non-O visa, at one of the honorary consulates. Do not get a O-A visa, as that will lead to problems with getting an extension for his wife while he is still on his visa entry.

When applying for an extension of stay, she can be a dependent of him, without the need for showing money etc. Her only requirement will be that she is married to him and they are living together.
