Help Film Maker With English - Thai Translation In Chiang Mai

Hello Everyone,

I am not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this but I will anyway.

My name is Rachel Dunn and Im a filmmaker currently in Chiang Mai and making a documentary called Through Elephant Eyes. I am looking for one enthusiastic person to come on board to help with translating the concept from English to Thai.

20 years in the Film Industry and an intrinsic love for animals and their livelihood, has fuelled this dream to produce a quality documentary that will make a difference in the way people perceive animals.

I want to explain what I am doing to many of the elephant camps here in Chiang Mai and have quickly realised I need someone that can speak very well... I am here to meet as many of the Thailand elephants as I can while exploring the subject "animal whispering"

and elephant wisdom.

Please phone or PM me or my Thailand phone number 085 358 2351

Thank you for your assistance.

Rachel

I have read your other 3 posts, please don't take this the wrong way I would have thought that a translator would have been one of the first things one should 'sort out' when travelling to a foreign country to work?

Which brings me onto, "You do have a work permit, don't you?"

Good luck with your production.

Do you really think that the remarks about wp's some people make, are dead serious? And about the "mind your own business and worry about your own situation." You should follow your own suggestion.

Due to current circumstances I feel the need to have this clarified.

Are the elephants in your doc going to be doing anything that could be taken as offensive to anyone's religion and possibly start another war or pillaging of any embassy?

Well, we are all offering advice to someone working and there may be an agency that offers this advice. We are probably considered working and so should get a WP. Advice on this legal matter as to needing a wp or not should be left to lawyers, as for us to advise, we would need a work permit.

As for the OP, try Chiang Mai university. Should be some good English speakers willing to do some work. Oh, I needed a work permit to act as an employment agency right?

Gonzo, whatever it is that you're having I just know that I need some.

That being said, about doing a documentary and/or having foreigners do translation, it would probably be wise to do it in conjunction with either 1 of the local elephant nature parks, a local video production company and/or a local magazine such as CityLife. It would make it very easy to get a temporary work permit.

Sure, people work without work permits all the time. Search in this forum for a group of happy guys strumming away at a local bar called Guitarman. At The River Market Restaurant we did work permits for the musicians for the 4th of July and for a birthday party and the process was fast, easy and I believe there were no fees, well, maybe the cost of a glass of tea or two.

Do elephants really need work permits to work here?

African Elephants for sure.

But Asian ones? I believe many of the elephants come from Burma and I'm not sure what the regulations are for Burmese. Others may have been part of a hill tribe, so if they're stateless, that's another kettle of fish.

I'm sure the elite believe that an Elephant working the fields means less hard work for the poor, and they wouldn't be happy with that. But they don't do much working the fields anymore. Would the elite like to see the poor carrying tourists around on their backs into the jungle? Would the tourists go for it? The question is, are the elephants stopping Thais from working?
