1 Day Extension

Featured Replies

I didn't realise "1 month" tourist via was for only 30 days, so I booked my holiday (from UK) for 31 days to have maximum time. I am getting lots of different advice: some people say don't worry they will let you go at the airport, no problem; others say I will get fined 500Tbt. But I don't want any hassle/ have overstay on my passport or risk missing my flight. So, what is the best way to sort out this small problem? Can I do it on arrival at BKK airport at the start of my holiday so I can forget about it?

Thanks

What Thai consulate gave you a "1 month " tourist visa? What does the text on the visa say?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

A tourist visa entry on UK passport is 60 days. If you received 30 days you did not have a visa and received a visa exempt entry. You can visit immigration a day or two prior to expiration and obtain 7 days to exit with a normal extension application costing 1,900 baht or you can exit one day late and pay nothing at an airport but you might get an overstay stay (but that really has no negative consequence).

A Tourist Visa gives a stay of 60 days.

A Visa Exempt Entry gives a stay of 30 days.

What do you have?

Don't have a visa yet. Was told by a friend you get a "1 month " visa on arrival, which turned out to be 30 days. I know I should have checked before booking - my bad. what does a 60 day tourist visa cost if I apply for it in the UK?

Visa Fees

Visa Type Fee (£) 1. Tourist (per entry) 25.00

For a 1 day overstay they won't put any nasty stamps in your passport. 500Bt fine sounds your cheapest option, they may even let you off but the fine is nothing to worry about. I once miscalculated a visa run and they just took me in the office, took the money and gave me a receipt. That was some time ago and have been back many times since, no problems.

That was good for you, but there have been reports by members saying that when leaving from Bangkok airport with a one-day overstay they had to pay no fine but a stamp or handwritten note was put in the passport regarding the overstay. However, this is beside the point. The OP wrote:

Being told at check-in at the UK airport that they won't give him a boarding pass because he has neither a visa nor a ticket for a flight out of Thailand within 30 days from arrival would be some hassle, I think, and this risk exists. I understand that he has decided to do what is necessary, ie get a single-entry tourist visa, and to try and dissuade him from this course seems counterproductive.

your 30 day visa exempt entry starts from the day of arrival, normally you arrive in Thailand the day after you leave the uk, have you taken this into account when counting your 30 days, if it is in fact a 31 day holiday you should get a visa, its not worth the risk of being refused boarding at the airport.

I noticed it too, steve187, that the OP did not give his travel dates, and thus he has been given advice based on the limited information he made available, as he gives the impression of knowing how to calculate the 30-day permission to stay that a visa-exempt arrival would give him.

Well lopburi3 (moderator) said similar and I don't think the check in people would actually count the days for issuing a boarding pass so long as he has a return ticket. Anyway I agree if he wants a totally risk free trip then OK get a single entry visa.

PS I usually travel on a single ticket and the check in desks don't seem to have a clue about visas until I explain it to them.

That's not true, you will get stamp and fine of 500baht.

I was on ED visa 2 years, im young and was legit student, the report was stamped over my 90 day extension. So I went to immigration a day late because I looked at report date (both are 90days and i always did them at same time ..) . I had to pay 500baht and I got a stamp.

I have an overstay stamp for being delayed until 15 minutes past midnight because of the lengthy immigration queues. No fine though.

Maybe varies where you go or possibly they've tighted up recently, I didn't get a stamp in mine and was just issued a receipt. I don't think it will affect future travel to Thailand anyway.

There is no fine if overstay is less than 2 days when departing from an airport - at a land crossing it will be due and if you overstay more than one day all will be charged.

Woah! lots of conflicting replies since I last checked... travel dates are Dep UK:6 Dec Arr BKK:7 Dec. Dep BKK: 5 Jan... 30 days, so yeah, miscounted from the 6th - doh!. er thanks anyway guys.

However, new problem is: I plan to do Ankor after 4 days in Bankok, so I think the 30 d. Visa waiver will expire when I cross the border & I'll only have 15 days on returning to Thailand (?) Is my best bet a double entry visa obtained here in UK, or is there a better/cheaper way of doing it? I know if I delayed my trip to Ankor I could get the 15 day overland entry visa, but that doesn't really fit in with my plans (would put me in Ankor around Xmas, when I expect it would be v. busy?).

(don't know if the following is relevant, as this is a visa forum; but anyway, here is my rough plan so far)

Really wanted to get Ankor touristy stuff done early because I want to try and find some "off the pancake trail" places before I spend a week on an island snorkelling/chilling (which I know will be busy everywhere at this time). Thinking about a slow journey to Ranong after I get back to Bankok from Ankor, stopping off anywhere that takes my fancy, including Kaeng Krung or Kao Sok Nat. Park, with Ko Phayam as island choice (currently) for up to a week (although busier Krabi/Ko Kradan is sounding good too, if Phayam doesn't fit the bill).

Yes a two entry tourist visa appears to be your best choice. They are really not that expensive.

Btw, does anyone know how to open Application/OCTET-STREAM attachments?

All the downloads on the UK Thai Consulate website look like PDF files, but aren’t. My PC lists them as unknown file types.

I am running Windows 7 with Firefox.

Welcome to Thailand??

I you click on the blue link it is a word document. If you click the PDF logo it is a PDF file.

Odo. What happened at the end? I have similar situation. Miscalculated the days and my flight is 1day after 30days expired..I am staying at the north and taking overnight bus to catch next day morning flight. Shall I do 15days border cross just for that 1day or just see how it goes at the airport ?

Just go to the airport. You will not be charged for less than 24 hour overstay (that's what the small stamp has on it). More will cost 500 baht a day including the first day.
