SATTAHIP;--The Royal Thai Navy captured 12 Vietnamese fishing boats caught trespassing in Thai territorial waters. A total of 108 crewmembers were detained. However, many other Vietnamese boats escaped when they saw the approaching Thai warships.

SATTAHIP – September 14, 2012 [PDN]; at 2:30 p.m., a command was issued to coordinate forces to capture Vietnamese fishing boats trespassing in Thai territorial waters by Vice Admiral Chumphol Wongvekin, director of the center of operating to protect the welfare of the country in the sea, region 1.

In charge of the cooperative enforcement operation were Rear Admiral Chainarong Chaowisate, Chief of Staff, navy section 1; Captain Arthorn Kleubmas, Deputy Chief of Staff; Captain Phanom Kuanpradit, director, Operations Division, Navy section 1; and Mr. Angkun Rattanaprom, the director of the Center of Administering Fishery in Thai bay, eastern part, Rayong province.

The Navy commanders invited related organizations such as the sea police, immigration police, and the fishery department, to join in apprehending the encroaching Vietnamese fishing boats.

To capture the Vietnamese boats, the Navy deployed a Sea Hawk plane, two Jakkrinareubet Royal boats, a Chaopraya Royal boat, a Kirirat Royal boat and a Taimuang Royal boat with rubber boats.

Special Operations naval officers directed the Sea Hawk plane to survey the Vietnamese boats that were dispersed around the northern Thai bay in two groups.
