England To Chiang Mai International Money Transfer

Recommended Posts

Please advise me on the cheapest way to send 2,000 quid from England to here. My friend recommends HiFX but I can't work the charges out if full without opening an account. There is a nine quid charge for less than 3g, plus??? My bank is Thai planet, which always costs a fortune as they go through Kasicorn bank first who also take a fee.

From England I can use Natwest, Nationwide or RSB... this end I only have Thai planet.

Western Union is fast and easy but expensive. There is no huge hurry for a quick transfer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in Chiang Mai or England now?

firstly open a proper bank account in Chiang Mai, you dont want to be messing with the noddy bank outlets that no one has heard of.

a typical transfer of £2k from England will cost in the region of £25 to send (and my bank allows a transfer of £25k for the same fee)

To set it up though, I had to be in England to fill in the transfer forms, then photocopy them a dozen times. From Thailand you can then just fax the instruction through to your bank.

Always transfer as sterling, otherwise you will get a tourist rate exchange rate and that can be quite bad via banks. When a bank here receives sterling they will exchange it at the international bank transfer rate which is better than tourist rate,

Get yourself a Halifax Clarity Credit Card.

Last time, i checked, no ATM fee (except the local 150Baht).

low fee and fast

Thanks for the info, have looked at the link but its a 50 pound membership fee and 25 pound agent fee.... 75 pounds. Thats more than I wanted to pay. Although it says first transfer is free? I have e-mailed them so will see, thanks 'shopboy'.
