A two-day workshop was held in Naypyidaw over the weekend to discuss the development needs of Arakan State, an area that was hit earlier this year by Burma’s worst communal riots in decades. According to official media reports, Burmese Vice President Sai Mauk Kham said that restoring the state to normalcy after clashes between Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in June would be a “complex rehabilitation task†that required trust and sympathy. The event was organized by the Ministry of Border Affairs, UN agencies and the Myanmar Development and Resources Institute.
